X launched and then un-launched a new image generator called Aurora over the weekend. xAI, the Elon Musk-founded AI startup, posted about the generator, and Musk confirmed that the model was available in beta.
However, a few hours after the launch, the model was taken offline, with the option to select it in Grok's model picker disappearing. TechCrunch was able to use the model and reported it had no restrictions on public figures or celebrities.
Many users who managed to get their hands on it posted interesting images of Adam Sandler and Ray Ramano on a sitcom set, Sam Altman riding a giraffe, and Mickey Mouse and Luigi going at it in a boxing match.
The model's specifications are unknown, but Musk confirmed it was an internal model currently in beta but "will improve very fast."
The Elon Musk-owned social media platform recently made Grok free for all users, albeit with restrictions.
