Dell is introducing a new design with the Latitude 9440 2-in-1 with a mini-LED backlit zero-lattice keyboard, a larger touchpad with haptic conference keys, and a fully Thunderbolt 4 interface. The Latitude 9440 2-in-1 conforms to Intel Evo standards and comes with a host of security and AI features to enhance collaboration.

Dell first launched a redesigned Latitude 9420 2-in-1 convertible in 2021 with Intel 11th gen processors and subsequently upgraded the same to the Latitude 9430 2-in-1 in 2022 with Intel Alder Lake processors. Now, Dell seems to have taken some design cues from the XPS 13 Plus 9320 and has incorporated them into the latest Latitude 9440 2-in-1 convertible.

While the XPS 13 Plus 9320 replaced the function key row with a touchbar and basically made the entire bottom of the keyboard deck behave like a touchpad, the Latitude 9440 2-in-1 takes a more conservative approach given its business leanings.

The Latitude 9440 offers a new keyboard style with closely packed zero-lattice keys, which are quite a departure from the keyboards we've seen with previous generation Latitude convertibles. According to Dell, these keys are wider and curved for improved tactile response and offer a more comfortable typing experience. The keys are backlit with mini-LED lights, which apparently help in power savings up to 75%.

The touchpad is now roomier and comes with haptic buttons with adjustable feedback for quick access to camera, microphone, screen sharing, and chat controls in Zoom.

Dell claims that the Latitude 9440 2-in-1 is the world's smallest 14-inch commercial PC with the highest screen-to-body ratio for its class. The physical dimensions continue to be the same as last year's Latitude 9430 2-in-1.

The Latitude 9440 2-in-1 offers only a single 14-inch 16:10 QHD+ IPS touch display option with 500 nits peak brightness, 100% sRGB coverage, and Corning Gorilla Glass 6 DX protection.

Powering the new Latitude 9440 2-in-1 is a choice of Intel 13th gen Raptor Lake-U vPro processors up to the Core i7. Up to 64 GB LPDDR5x-6400 RAM can be configured along with storage options up to 2 TB. The laptop is made to comply with Intel Evo design guidelines.

Just like the new XPS versions, Dell has skipped USB-A ports this time around. Instead, you get 3x Thunderbolt 4 ports with DisplayPort-out and Power Delivery. A FHD webcam with an IR sensor and an electro-mechanical shutter is offered. Buyers can also optionally include a fingerprint sensor in the power button.

Wi-Fi 6E with Bluetooth 5.3 is the default networking option. Buyers can also include optional 5G WWAN with eSIM compatibility where available. A 3-cell 60 WHr battery powers the innards.

Considering the target audience, Dell offers a bundle of security features with the Latitude 9440 2-in-1. These include SafeBIOS, SafeID, MIL-STD 810H durability, chassis tamper detection, and more. There are also a few AI smarts such Onlooker and Look-away detection via Dell Optimizer.

Dell said that the Latitude 9440 2-in-1 will be available in the coming months with no concrete timeframe. Pricing will be revealed closer to availability.
