Bose has expanded its SoundLink line of portable Bluetooth speakers with the addition of the new Bose SoundLink Plus. The announcement comes just a few days after the audio brand announced a new pair of premium Bluetooth earbuds. Bose has positioned the SoundLink Plus between the SoundLink Max and the SoundLink Flex (2nd Gen).
The SoundLink Plus has a powder-coated steel grille and a polycarbonate body with soft touch silicone. Unlike the SoundLink Max which has a handle at the top, the SoundLink Plus has a nylon utility rope loop on the side for carrying the speaker or hooking it to a carabiner.
Rated IP67 for dust and water resistance, the speaker is also described as shock and rust-resistant, so it's not only safe for use outdoors but can survive rough handling, too. Talking about the outdoors, Bose says the SoundLink Plus can serve as a power bank and provide power to a smartphone via its USB-C port.
In terms of audio features, the SoundLink Plus is ''big enough to bring booming bass'' while being portable. It has a subwoofer, a tweeter, and four passive radiators, and Bose says it is loud enough for 15 people. And if there's a larger crowd, it can be paired to a second unit for a party mode. Owners can tweak the sound by adjusting the EQ using the Bose app. They can also connect the speaker to Bose soundbars for resonant sound when at home. Unfortunately, the speaker lacks an aux input port.
The Bose SoundLink Plus has a battery life of up to 20 hours but there's no mention of support for fast charging as a full charge takes 5 hours. The speaker connects via Bluetooth 5.4 and has a range of 30 feet. If you plan to use it for calls, you'd want to look elsewhere as Bose says the speaker lacks a microphone which is surprising as the top of the speaker appears to have three microphone holes.
Priced at $269, the Bose SoundLink Plus is available in Blue Dusk, Black, and Citrus Yellow (exclusive to Bose.com). It is available to preorder on Amazon or directly from Bose ahead of its release on June 26.
