On social media, Nintendo has announced an Indie World presentation, set to air on Thursday, August 7th, at 9:00 AM EST/6:00 AM PST. The approximately 15-minute show will focus on indie Switch and Switch 2 games developed for the consoles. However, YouTuber SwitchForce believes that last week’s Partner Showcase and the upcoming Indie World are a prelude to a general Nintendo Direct.
On August 3rd, SwitchForce predicted that another Nintendo broadcast would happen imminently. With a questionable track record for leaks, the proclamation had more than its fair share of critics. As it turns out, Nintendo did, in fact, reveal the Indie World.
Significantly, the YouTuber anticipates a three-phase plan for Nintendo events. He argues that with many upcoming Switch 2 games lacking release dates, a traditional Nintendo Direct is necessary. Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Kirby Air Riders are two games due out in 2025, but still lack more precise dates.
SwitchForce isn’t specific about when a general Nintendo Direct would happen. He does note that the September schedule lacks a high-profile Nintendo release, which might suggest a show in August. Splatoon Raiders is a possible Switch 2 game that could arrive on short notice. On the other hand, September has been a more common month for the company to host the major event.
During the Indie World, the podcaster expects to see mainly games already available on competing platforms. A demo of one of the titles could also drop immediately.
With publishers like Microsoft absent, many critics thought the July 31st Partner Showcase failed to deliver exciting announcements. Even if the Indie World also disappoints, a general Nintendo Direct with updates on exclusive Switch 2 games may soon follow.
