Lenovo updates Flex line of notebooks with a new design and improved internals

The new and improved Flex 5 14" and Flex 5 15" have slimmer bezels, Intel's 7th generation Kaby Lake processors, and NVIDIA's GeForce 940 MX GPU.

Lenovo has long been a leader in the 2-in-1 notebook market. It’s innovative Yoga and Flex lines brought convertibles to the mainstream and have arguably been the most popular notebooks to feature 360-degree hinges. Today, Lenovo announced an update to the Flex line of consumer 2-in-1’s, which now feature 7th generation Intel Kaby Lake CPUs and NVIDIA GeForce 940MX GPUs.

Both the 14- and 15-inch Flex 5 notebooks also have an improved design. The displays have narrower bezels as well as support for an Active Pen styles and a fingerprint reader for quick logins through Windows Hello. The new Flex 5 models are now equipped with:

  • Up to a 7th Gen Intel Core i7 CPU
  • NVIDIA GeForce 940MX GPU
  • Up to 16 GB DDR4 RAM
  • Up to a 512 GB PCIe SSD and a 1 TB HDD
  • Two USB 3.0 Type-A ports
  • One USB 3.1 Type-C port (does not charge the notebook)
  • HDMI
  • 4-in-1 SD Card Reader
  • 802.11ac WiFi
  • Bluetooth 4.1
  • 3 Cell 52.5 Wh battery

The 14-inch model has up to a 1920x1080 panel, while the 15-inch has the option for a full 4K screen at 3840x2160. Both displays are IPS touchscreens. The 14-inch device weighs in at 3.9 lbs and measures 12.9”x9.01”x0.8” (LxWxH). The 15-inch notebook weighs 4.4 lbs and measures 14.33”x9.72”x0.8”. Both models will be available later this month starting at $719.99 and $829.99 for the 14- and 15-inch devices, respectively.
