Zerowriter Fold: Modern e-ink typewriter debuts with 100-hour battery life

The name Zerowriter may sound familiar to attentive readers, and the Zerowriter Fold is now a new system that focuses specifically on writing longer texts. It is essentially a modern typewriter. Clearly, this kind of device has to be something users actually want, since its feature set is limited. But that is also likely part of the appeal: Instead of writing texts on a PC or laptop, where all kinds of distractions are just one click away, the Zerowriter Fold allows users to fully focus on writing.
It does not use an LCD but an e-ink display. Such displays don't need much power, and the lower refresh rate should be less of an issue when typing text. The screen measures 6 inches diagonally. It is a foldable system, meaning it can be folded shut and transported with relatively good protection against damage. The built-in battery is said to enable a battery life of up to 100 hours.
Zerowriter installs a low-profile keyboard. Various switches are supported, and they can also be replaced quickly. This makes it easy to adapt the typing feel to personal preferences. The keyboard can also be used as a USB keyboard, while texts can be saved on an SD card. Exporting to a smartphone via QR code is also possible. Configuration options are available for text types and sizes, among other things. Bookmarks are supported, which should make navigation easier. As part of the crowdfunding campaign, the current price starts at roughly $239. Potential backers should be aware of the financial risks associated with this type of crowdfunding. Shipping costs are added on top, and delivery is not scheduled until January 2027.
