The project, which is still a work in progress, is said to be 'halfway complete', making it one of the most ambitious mods featured on FromSoftware's well-received Elden Ring franchise.

Youtuber and modder InfernoPlus has fused two iconic RPG worlds in an ambitious project to port the entirety of Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind into Elden Ring, reviving the cult-classic Bethesda RPG from 2002, marrying its open-world map and lore to From Software’s Soulslike combat, gameplay, and engine.

InfernoPlus showcased an early sneak peek into the mod in a recent YouTube video titled “I ported Morrowind to Elden Ring.” In the video, InfernoPlus stated that the project is halfway complete after months of development, which he initially started in Dark Souls, before migrating it to Elden Ring, due to its superior engine.

In the video, he explained this move, stating, “Morrowind is one of my favorite games of all time, but goddamn it is dated.” He further explained that he wants to combine the world and lore of Morrowind with the combat of a Souls game.

This isn’t the first time a modder has put in the work to modernize Morrowind. The Tamriel Rebuilt mod added Morrowind’s mainland to The Elder Scrolls III, in which half of the mainland is playable. Another notable mod is Skywind, which is a total recreation of The Elder Scrolls III from the ground up, using the more modern Skyrim: Special Edition engine.

InfernoPlus’s Elden Ring mod recreates Morrowind’s island of Vvardenfell, complete with region-specific weather and lighting effects to overhaul immersion. Furthermore, the modder had overhauled the water systems using Elden Ring’s assets, but he couldn’t resist changing Morrowind’s ordinary swamps to poisonous ones.

The modder further detailed that the world-building has pretty much been completed and is fully explorable. However, the mod currently lacks gameplay integration, with InfernoPlus requesting the community for help in tackling technical hurdles like increasing character spawn limits, proper NPC pathing, and 3D artists to help with recreating Morrowind’s armor sets and clothing.

While the project is still in its early stages, InfernoPlus expressed that he wants to “Morrowindify” some of Elden Ring’s best bosses, like Radahn and Malenia, to fit with the Elder Scrolls theme.

InfernoPlus has been cautious of legal consequences, stating that the mod doesn’t include any of Morrowind’s game files or assets and requires players to own both Morrowind and Elden Ring. The mod will pull assets directly from a local Morrowind installation to reconstruct its world in Elden Ring.
