YouTube allegedly testing a homepage without view count and upload date information
While fighting against ad blockers at an ever-intesifying rate, YouTube is also testing a significant change to its homepage interface. This change simply consists in removing both video view counts and publication dates. As a consequence, the videos on the homepage will supposedly be differentiated only by their title and the name of their creator.
This potential update was uncovered via the X social network by the user vidIQ. While it represents another step in YouTube's ongoing effort to reshape its platform, both visually and from a functional perspective, these attributes might still show up when actually watching videos.
As usual, the change has been received with mixed reactions by the YouTube community. While critics argue that publication dates are very important for gaming news or political coverage, the supporters of this possible change suggest that smaller creators who are often overlooked in favor of more popular channels with higher view counts would be the winners.
Recently, Google introduced a pink gradient progress bar and fine-tuned the ad skipping function. Various AI features aimed at enhancing creator tools and monetization options are also in the works or have been added to the YouTube platform already. Since this is only in a testing stage for now and there is no confirmed timeline for a wider rollout, there is only one thing left to do: wait.
