Unveiled back in February at MWC 2018, the Sony Xperia XZ2 and Xperia XZ2 Compact might not be exactly at the level of the other contemporary flagships in terms of design, but they definitely pack quite a punch when it comes to speed and features. Sadly, the Sony Xperia devices are not quite popular in the United States, but most of the brand's local fans will surely be delighted to see the latest additions to this lineup up for pre-order in the US.
For now, B&H Photo looks like the only retailer to have product pages up for the Xperia XZ2 and the Xperia XZ2 compact. The prices are US$799.99 for the 5.7-inch Xperia XZ2 and US$649.99 for the 5-inch Xperia XZ2. Leaving aside the dimensions, these two handsets share most of the hardware specs and features: the top-of-the-line Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor, 4 GB RAM, 64 GB internal storage, 5 MP selfie shooter, 19 MP back camera, stereo speakers, dust and water resistance, NFC connectivity, fingerprint reader, Bluetooth 5.0, and Android 8.0 Oreo. However, the more expensive Xperia XZ2 is the only of the two that features dual-SIM support and wireless charging, also having a larger battery capacity (3,180 mAh vs. 2,870 mAh for the XZ2 Compact).
The color choices available for the Sony Xperia XZ2 and Xperia XZ2 Compact are green, black, silver, and pink. Sadly, there is no blue or red option yet, but given Sony's delay in adopting the popular smartphone design trends, we can hope that the Xperia XZ3 lineup will add these two colors to the list as well.
These two new Xperia handsets are expected to launch in Europe on April 5, so they will probably hit the US by the end of the month as well. For Sony's sake, we can only hope that more retailers will have them in store by then.
