Xplora Go Pad leak reveals compact Snapdragon tablet with parental controls

HMD appears to be expanding its child-focused device portfolio with a new tablet developed under the Xplora brand. A new leak from X reveals key specifications for the Xplora Go Pad. This upcoming device pairs relatively modest Android tablet hardware with a substantial set of parental controls and safety features.

The Xplora Go Pad is said to feature an 8.7-inch IPS LCD panel with an unspecified resolution and refresh rate. Under the hood is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 685, an older 6 nm chipset with four Cortex-A73 performance cores and four Cortex-A53 efficiency cores. It also includes a 4G modem, allowing the chip to operate on cellular networks alongside Wi-Fi, and charging tops out at 18 W, although the tablet's battery capacity has not yet been revealed. Memory and storage configurations are similarly unknown for now.

HMD appears to be placing much greater emphasis on durability and child safety. The Xplora Go Pad is reportedly IP65-rated for dust and water resistance and can survive drops from up to 100 cm. The software suite is said to include parental controls, web detection and education-focused AI features. It also lists harmful-content blocking among its capabilities.

The tablet marks another collaboration between HMD and Norwegian company Xplora, which was previously seen on the Fusion X1 smartphone. It essentially gives parents control over internet and social-media access, approved contacts, screen time, and location tracking. The Xplora Go Pad extends that strategy beyond smartphones into the tablet market. Pricing, availability and a complete specification sheet have yet to surface.
