Reviews for the Xiaomi Poco X4 GT
Xiaomi's Poco line-up is filled with affordable smartphones with good specs. One such phone is the Xiaomi Poco X4 GT, which is officially available for 380 Euro (around US$370) and offers an exciting combination of a high-end processor, a fast 144 Hz display and a large battery. Is this more than enough for everyday use? We put the phone through its paces in our review.

The Poco X4 GT delivers on its promise of providing solid performance without hurting your wallet. Like its predecessors, it remains an excellent choice for mobile gamers who don't want to shell out a lot of money for a gaming-focused handset. However, a few corners were cut in terms of build quality and cameras, though these tradeoffs are acceptable for the price.

The Xiaomi Poco X4 GT smartphone is like any other Poco phone that has impressive performance. But at the same time, there are nothing impressive features that give this phone edge over the competition, except you will obtain robust 5G connectivity, long-lasting battery life, smooth user experience, and many more things. However, you will also notice an equal share of shortcomings with this phone. Many people would argue that Poco F4 could be an overall great deal in the same price range. But if you are looking for a phone for budget gaming, the Poco X4 GT is undoubtedly an impressive deal that you need to check out. Yet, if you are a casual user, you can check out another alternative like OnePlus Ace Racing to compare and make a final call.

The POCO X4 GT has better performance than before. On paper, there are a lot of improvements, a faster refresh rate display which is slightly brighter, a better main camera, and a bigger battery. I think the hardware design language is also excellent despite the phone being slightly heavier than the predecessor. There are a few downgrades, no IP rating, no Gorilla Glass Victus, and no JBL-tuned audio speakers. I also think that perhaps it is time for POCO to put in an AMOLED display and I hope that happens soon. Despite this shortcoming, the overall package still packs a serious punch for the retail price. And POCO did something that every smartphone device manufacturer should do which is to bring back the headphone jack. For those looking for great battery life and a lot of gaming horsepower, the POCO X4 GT fits the bill at around €380. Its price tag has a lot to do with our final score on this phone, as it’s really hard to beat.

The Poco X4 GT is one of the most powerful phones you can get for the money, making it an obvious pick for those who love mobile gaming — even if better-known models are more likely to get direct developer support. It has stereo speakers and great fast charging too, Xiaomi’s 67W standard about the best you can get at the price right now. The Poco X4 GT doesn’t have the most finger-charming build or the greatest camera array in the universe, but to get a dramatic upgrade in either area you have to spend at least a little more money.

The Poco X4 GT is a great buy for those looking for a sensibly priced gaming and entertainment phone. Its processor is super-powerful, and both the long battery and tendency not to become too hot under pressure suggest its core components are efficient, too. I don’t think you miss out much by not having an OLED screen here – seen in several notable rivals – because image quality and contrast are decent anyway. The Poco X4 GT’s cameras are by no means class-leading, however, and some may find the design a bit bland or basic. Nevertheless, if you slip the phone into a case, the plastic build just won’t matter anymore.

On paper, the Poco X4 GT looks amazing. It ticks virtually every box for a mid-range phone, yet comes in at the very bottom end in terms of price. It has a flagship-level processor, 144Hz screen, big battery, fast charging, a good camera setup and dual-SIM 5G. You even get extras such as the headphone jack, stereo speakers and a 67W charger. But the reality isn’t quite as impressive. Yes, the Dimensity 8100 is hugely quick and the screen is a big improvement over the X3 GT’s. However, the cameras – overall – aren’t the best, there’s no (official) water-resistance rating, the stereo speakers aren’t well balanced and MIUI13 does lag from time to time. Maybe this will be fixed with software updates, but it disappointed me in my time with the phone. It therefore depends what you want from your phone. It could be a good option for anyone looking for an affordable gaming phone, but if you’d trade some performance for an OLED screen and better cameras, there are other options (including the aforementioned Poco X4 Pro 5G).

The POCO X4 GT is the new mid-range king in the Philippines for 2022, especially with raw processing power that’s well-optimized for gaming. An AMOLED display could have made the POCO X4 GT even better, but its use of a Dimensity 8100 processor alone makes it a real bang-for-the-buck smartphone for 2022.

It would have been great to say that the X4 GT is an excellent all-rounder and an easy-to-recommend handset. It has a long battery life, a powerful chipset on board, a decent screen, fast charging, good-sounding stereo speakers and okay camera performance. But here's the thing - decent camera performance and display quality are not enough to stand out and keep us from giving the X4 GT an excellent score. Not that there's something inherently wrong with the LCD panel; it's just not on par with the majority of competing OLED-equipped solutions. The 2x zoom mode, the low-light performance of the main camera and the selfie shooter all need a little bit of improvement, which we believe can be achieved through software optimization. On the other hand, there are a handful of options out there with bigger and better main sensors edging out the X4 GT in case photo quality is of great concern. Nonetheless, the early bird price of €300 makes the handset particularly enticing, especially for users looking for a long-term, future-proof solution on a budget.

The mid-range segment is set to be disrupted with the arrival of the POCO X4 GT in the Philippines. Despite looking like your typical mid-range phone, its use of a Dimensity 8100 processor translates to an incredible price-to-performance ratio on paper that its rivals will have a hard time matching.

Overall, the POCO X4 GT can meet your needs whether you want a high-level eye-protecting LCD screen, an MTK Dimensity 8100 chip with high performance and low power consumption, or a long-lasting battery and fast charging. The price of the X4 GT in the AliExpress store is very good in the world premiere at $299 for the 8GB + 128GB version and $339 for the 8GB + 256GB version and more surprises can be found in the store, this offer is valid until 6.30. So, what are you waiting for so far, don’t miss out on this great deal?

As we’ve come to expect from Poco, the X4 GT is a perfectly capable phone that puts performance and price above flashier features. Day to day usability makes all the difference at this end of the smartphone spectrum, with some budget models being little better than e-waste. That’s absolutely not the case here. There are a few concessions that might put off anyone with a bigger budget, like the LCD screen tech, and only one of the rear cameras is worth your attention. There’s also no shortage of competition around this price point though, including from bigger name rivals like Samsung and OnePlus. Early bird offers make it tempting, but full-price it’s not such a bargain. It’s not excitingly affordable like the Moto G handsets of old, but when the cost of everything else seems to be climbing higher by the day, value for money goes a long way right now.

Comment
Model:
The Xiaomi Poco X4 GT is the latest gaming smartphone to enter the market. In terms of its design, this device is definitely attractive. While it does feature a nice back, it is not the best when it comes to build quality despite the hefty 200g and 8.9mm build. On the front, there is a Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection however both the back and frame of the smartphone are made of plastic. Therefore, the in-hand feel of the device is not actually that great. In addition, the side-mounted fingerprint scanner which also doubles as the power button does feel extremely loose and cheap, which is not quite good for longevity. However, despite the feel of it, the actual scanner’s functionality is sound with fast and accurate unlocking. Apart from that, the Poco X4 GT supports dual-SIM and houses a 3.5mm headphone jack for audio consumption. It is worth noting that the latter is especially useful for gaming enthusiasts who tend to use wired headphones. On the other hand, another staple of any budget Poco device is the IR blaster, also found its way onto this smartphone. However, there is no provision for any IP rating on the smartphone, unlike the Poco F4 5G.
As far as its display is concerned, this model has been incorporated with a flat 6.6-inch 1,080 x 2,460 resolution IPS panel with a whopping 144Hz refresh rate. Aside from its supper snappy performance, there are also Dolby Vision and HDR10 support which complements multimedia consumption. Despite its outstanding features, the colours on the panel are not as vibrant as a typical AMOLED display. As for its performance, the Poco X4 GT packs a 5nm MediaTek Dimensity 8100 chip clocked at 2.85GHz along with either 128GB or 256GB of storage and 8GB of RAM. While this may allow easy switching between multiple applications or even have floating windows like Google Maps run fine on the smartphone, the performance is not always smooth. Given the fact that the smartphone tries to deliver the 144Hz refresh rate, the experience stutters at times.
The Xiaomi Poco X4 GT has been equipped with a triple camera setup which includes a 64MP primary sensor, 8MP ultra-wide and a 2MP depth sensors. While sometimes the device manages to capture a scene well but during most other times, it tends to oversaturate pictures. However, this trait is a boon for this model when it comes to night photos as the camera’s tendency to do exactly that results in a sharper looking and brighter night images. In addition, the night mode option is also plenty fast and assisted by ambient light, which allow the users to capture some good images. In terms of its battery, this smartphone carries a 4,500mAh battery. Overall, it is a great device to be explored, depending on the need and preference of the user.
