Xiaomi has unveiled the POCO X5 5G, the lesser half of the POCO X5 Pro 5G. As expected, the POCO X5 5G effectively succeeds the POCO X4 Pro 5G. In short, the pair share the same display, chipset and battery. However, Xiaomi has made some changes to distinguish the POCO X5 5G as a 'non-Pro' model. For example, the POCO X5 5G has the same 6.67-inch, AMOLED, 1080p and 120 Hz display as the POCO X4 Pro 5G.
The panel continues to peak at 1,200 nits too, but Xiaomi has swapped Corning Gorilla Glass 5 for Gorilla Glass 3. Similarly, although a 5,000 mAh battery remains, the POCO X5 5G can only recharge it at 33 W, less than half the wattage of the POCO X4 Pro 5G. The Snapdragon 695 is unchanged, as is the inclusion of LPDDR4X RAM and UFS 2.2 flash storage.
Xiaomi appears to have re-used last year's 8 MP ultra-wide-angle and 2 MP macro cameras as well, but 48 MP primary and 13 MP front-facing cameras are now in place. For reference, the POCO X4 Pro 5G shipped with a 16 MP front-facing camera in all regions, the device has a 64 MP primary camera in India and a 108 MP sensor elsewhere. The POCO X5 5G has a smaller footprint than the POCO X4 Pro 5G, though. Whereas the latter measures 164.19 x 76.10 x 8.12 mm, the former comes in at 165.88 x 76.21 x 7.98 mm.
Additionally, the POCO X5 5G weighs 189 g, 16 g less than the POCO X4 Pro 5G. The POCO X5 5G will be available in Black, Blue and Green colourways, plus a choice of 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage or 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage configurations. Xiaomi adds that the POCO X5 5G will ship with MIUI 13, albeit without specifying the Android version. The POCO X5 5G will be available at the following prices, with €50 discounts offered initially:
- 6 GB of RAM/128 GB of storage - €299.90
- 8 GB of RAM/256 GB of storage - €349.90
