Xiaomi’s official Chinese Weibo account has issued a teaser indicating that it is prepping an update to its 12.5-inch Mi Notebook Air. The teaser shows a scale with the current weight of the device at 1.07 kg hinting at either a refresh or that the company is targeting a sub 1 kg weight target.
Xiaomi has issued a new teaser image of a scale showing the weight of its current Mi Notebook Air. The current model is already quite svelte and tips the scales, as shown, at just 1.07 kg. The teaser suggests that the company is either prepping a refresh of the device or is aiming for a sub 1 kg target. As a yardstick, Apple’s 12-inch MacBook weighs in at 920 grams, so it is a good bet that Xiaomi will be aiming to get as close to that as possible if a full redesign is indeed on the cards.
The current Mi Notebook Air 12.5 is fitted with either a seventh-gen Intel Core M3-7Y30 or Intel Core i5-7Y54 processor, so an update for its silicon to eight-gen equivalents is certainly in the offing at the very least. The rest of its architecture is reasonably sound, however, with either 4 GB of DDR4 RAM and either a 128 GB or 256 GB PCIe SSD. That said, the option for at 8 GB of RAM would be nice to have as well.
We shouldn’t have to wait too long to see what Xiaomi has in store. All is set to be revealed on March 26. The current model retails from around US$500, making it a cost-effective Windows-based alternative to its Apple-branded namesake.

I have been writing about consumer technology over the past ten years, previously with the former MacNN and Electronista, and now Notebookcheck since 2017. My first computer was an Apple ][c and this sparked a passion for Apple, but also technology in general. In the past decade, I’ve become increasingly platform agnostic and love to get my hands on and explore as much technology as I can get my hand on. Whether it is Windows, Mac, iOS, Android, Linux, Nintendo, Xbox, or PlayStation, each has plenty to offer and has given me great joy exploring them all. I was drawn to writing about tech because I love learning about the latest devices and also sharing whatever insights my experience can bring to the site and its readership.
