Xiaomi gets creative with dual selfie camera placement
LetsGoDigital has kindly shared a render of a potential Xiaomi smartphone that sports a new solution for where to put the front-facing (selfie) camera. In the quest for more screen estate and less bezel and less notch, the manufacturer has placed a dual selfie camera setup on the bottom of a smartphone, front and center.
Now as pointed out by our source, there is a reason why smartphone manufacturers generally position selfie cameras at the top. It seems natural to have the camera/s located there as the rest of the device is then below eye level. However, there is an advantage of placing the camera setup at the bottom: It does make the device look like it has more screen to it. People generally scan things from top to bottom when in a hurry, so the bottom-positioned cameras will be out of sight and out of mind.
Interestingly, it appears Xiaomi has come up with another solution for a dual front-facing camera setup, by putting one camera in each of the smartphone’s bottom corners. This solution does seem a little bit more incongruous and far-fetched in comparison with the first idea, but what it does demonstrate is that Xiaomi is rapidly becoming the new champion of innovation.
