Reviews for the Xiaomi Black Shark 4
The Xiaomi Black Shark 4 is not quite as extravagantly designed as other gaming phones and comparatively cheap. However, it has a lot to offer with a 144 Hz display, 5G and mechanical shoulder keys. Read our review to find out whether the gaming phone is worth it.

I’m firmly in the camp where I would LOVE to see more Xiaomi phones made available here in the U.S. Despite its “gaming focus” the Black Shark 4 is just the latest example of why. The phone offers an incredible value, along with solid cameras, near-flagship specs, and support for 120W fast charging. And that’s not even including the 144Hz AMOLED panel that is flat and looks fantastic. All of this in a package that’s priced at less than $500, and it’s definitely one of the best phones of the year. So if you’re in the market for a phone that’s more powerful than what the Pixel 5a has to offer, get the Black Shark 4. You won’t be disappointed.

So that’s it – the Black Shark 4 is out in the market right now with the starting price of RM1,999 only. Fantastic price for such a phone, honestly. You can even get it on Maxis Zerolution, by the way. Though I don’t know why they’re bundling it with the split-type triggers. You already got a phone with physical popup triggers, why do you need yet another accessory for triggers? Anyway, I’m still loving the Black Shark 4. It’s a fantastic phone especially with what it offers at this price point. Seriously, for just RM1,999 starting price – you get the Snapdragon 870 chipset with physical triggers. It’s amazing.

To wrap things up, it’s no longer surprising to see how mobile gaming is slowly but surely getting better recognition. And if you just so happen to be looking for a bang-for-buck gaming phone, then the Black Shark 4 might just be your answer to that. You’re getting flagship-grade specs, those physical pop-up triggers right by the shoulders, a very acceptable camera, and incredibly fast charging, all encapsulated together at a comparatively more affordable price. As of this article, the Black Shark 4 is priced at PHP 22,950 (from PHP 24,950) for 6+128GB, PHP 25,950 (from PHP 26,990) for 8+128GB, PHP 27,990 (from PHP 29,990) for 12+128GB and PHP 34,990 for 12+256GB of storage.

On paper, the Black Shark 4 seemed like an easy recommendation. It offers an excellent price/performance ratio, it has a unique set of physical shoulder buttons for gaming, a fast and bright 144Hz OLED panel, great-sounding stereo speakers, insanely fast charging and dependable camera performance. But as we dug deeper, the 144Hz display turned out to be a gimmick in a large portion of the games. Running at 144Hz wasn't even possible in simple menus and apps. Support for HRR gaming is also extremely limited, beating the purpose of buying the Black Shark 4 solely for gaming. And when you add the not-so-great battery life and the lack of 4K video stabilization to the cons list, it makes it hard for us to give the handset a higher score.

The Black Shark 4 certainly delivered top-tier mobile gaming in our review, without costing an arm and a leg especially if you’re in the Philippines. The physical shoulder buttons give you actual tactile feedback, something that’s missing on more expensive gaming phones from other brands. And despite the switch to a Snapdragon 870 chipset, the phone still delivers excellent gaming performance no matter what you throw at it.

Black Shark 4 review. Maybe the best phone for PUBG performance for the price. 144hz 6.67" SAMOLED, SD870, UFS storage, and gaming triggers.

The Black Shark 4 has addressed the biggest issue with mobile gaming, giving you a more responsive screen as well customizable triggers. This is the first phone I actually enjoyed playing more competitive mobile games on. Not only that, I was actually really good at them, which I think is reason enough to get this for most people.

The Black Shark 4 is one of the less expensive gaming smartphones released here in 2021. With one of its coolest accessories being a cooler that's colder than a refrigerator. Today we are going to see how well this new Black Shark 4 gaming phone holds up to a JerryRigEverything durability test, and well see how that active cooler works, from the inside.

It is a small display format for smartphones. You shouldn't be severely defective in vision, and you won't see much detail on the screen and only have a small resolution available. For that, the device should be small and handy, easy to transport.
