Reviews for the Xiaomi 12
Flagship smartphones should be as large as possible - at least that is what many manufacturers seem to think. The Xiaomi 12 does exactly the opposite: at 6.28 inches, it is as compact as the Apple iPhone 13 but still delivers a performance worthy for a flagship. As our test shows, it also plays in the top league in terms of the rest of the equipment.

Like the larger Xiaomi 12 Pro, the 6.28-inch Xiaomi 12 both pleases and disappoints. Its compact dimensions will be a real plus point for many people. The cameras are good, and the macro mode is fun to use, although it's a shame it is so hidden away in the menu system. The top-end chipset, 120Hz screen refresh rate and fast charging are also very welcome. However, there's no IP rating for dust and water resistance, battery life is below par and there is a lot of bloatware. If you're looking for a smaller-format flagship-class phone, the Google Pixel 6 is worth considering, among others.

The Xiaomi 12 is the junior model of the Chinese manufacturer’s top-end 12 series, featuring the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset as the 12 Pro flagship phone. The 12 comes with a smaller display though, and there are also some important hardware differences in the camera setup. Like on the 12 Pro the Xiaomi 12’s primary camera has a 50MP resolution, but the pixels are distributed across a slightly smaller image sensor. The ultra-wide camera uses a 13MP sensor instead of the Pro’s 50MP and a 5MP macro with 50mm equivalent focal length takes the place of the Pro model’s 50MP 48mm variant.

The Xiaomi 12’s audio was quite similar to the 12 Pro’s performance, even though the 12 has stereo speakers, compared with the 12 Pro’s four-speaker setup. When it came to volume, the Xiaomi 12 actually received a higher score than the Pro version. But the Pro did better in other key areas like playback dynamics. In playback, the Xiaomi 12 scored well in the gaming use case. Playback and recording showed good wideness and few artifacts. Both playback and recording lacked bass for a premium-segment device. But overall, the Xiaomi 12 remains a steady performer with no big flaws and some very good points for all types of playback and recording scenarios.

The Xiaomi 12 is a compelling flagship smartphone in a number of ways. For starters, its new compact form factor will appeal to those who don’t want a huge handset and overall, the design looks and feels great. You also get a decent collection of high-end specs such as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip, AMOLED screen with 120Hz refresh rate, and speedy 67W charging. It’s also got a solid main camera along with a good ultrawide, but few buyers will be excited by a telemacro lens. While there’s lots to like about the Xiaomi 12, it still has no waterproofing, battery life is nothing special, and MIUI continues to lag behind rivals. Considering the asking price here, it’s slightly tough for it to stand out compared to handsets like the Galaxy S22 and cheaper options like the Pixel 6.

The Xiaomi 12 is an attractive flagship phone that’s a little rough around the edges. While its small form, attractive design and fast charging ensure it plays well in the big leagues, its cameras, display and software experience are only ‘okay’. Given that this is a high-price flagship phone, we had hoped for better.

There are a few areas where the Xiaomi 12 could be improved. For instance, the battery life and charge time could be given a boost, Xiaomi could increase the camera's zoom and another point I would make is that while the design is very classy it risks getting a bit lost amongst the rest of the mid-range smartphone crowd. But even so, in comparison to other phones at this sort of price, the Xiaomi 12 is definitely one of the best because it doesn't sacrifice at all on hardware which means you'll still get fantastic performance, a stunning display and a good camera. Its stand out feature has to be its size, though. If you have small hands, or if you just prefer a more compact handset, this will be the best cheap phone for you right now. It's tiny!

A phone of two halves, the Xiaomi 12 isn’t a huge step-up from its predecessor. Despite the performance improvements, lavish design and superbly colour-accurate display, the Xiaomi 12 still has its drawbacks, and frustratingly these are things that could have been addressed following the launch of the Xiaomi 11 last year. The lack of a telephoto camera is a deal-breaker for some, and the fact that there’s no official IP68 rating is a bit of a bummer, too. Both of these omissions are simply too big to ignore. By all means, go for the Xiaomi 12 if you aren’t fussed about either of these missing features, but realistically you should be buying the Samsung Galaxy S22 instead.

So, we’re at the end of this comparison review and I really think we need to look at the price. Here in Malaysia, the prices are as below: I personally think that the Xiaomi 12 – the tiny one – is a good choice. At the price of RM2,999 (don’t buy the 128GB version please), I think it’s expensive, yes – but it’s a good compact phone. I should say – it’s also a phone that I’ll consider carrying in my pocket too. As for the Xiaomi 12 Pro, at RM3,899, I think it’s just way too expensive for what it has to offer. Despite having 50MP for all the camera sensors, other parts of the phone fell apart for me. The battery life, the reality of the charging speed, USB 2.0, that price tag – yeah I’ll rather get the Samsung Galaxy S22 or S22 Plus at that price point.

A few days ago, the Xiaomi company officially unveiled its series of smartphones, Xiaomi 12, which consists of three devices, the regular version Xiaomi 12, Xiaomi 12 Pro, and Xiaomi 12X. The Xiaomi 12 series phones are designed to enable users to enjoy the latest video shooting technologies and entertainment capabilities, providing the utmost sophistication through Xiaomi’s AI algorithms, the power of the main processor, and a comprehensive and sophisticated all-round experience.

When we first took the Xiaomi 12 in hand, we were really impressed. We instantly thought that this would be the compact flagship to recommend in 2022. A quick scroll through the specs sheet suggests exactly that. Bright and fast OLED, premium build, big battery, fast wired and wireless charging, dedicated stereo speakers and a triple-camera setup with a big main sensor. And then, of course, at the helm of it all - the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. Sadly, through the course of writing this review, we found out that most of these standout features come with caveats. The big battery fails to deliver satisfactory endurance, the dedicated stereo speakers are imbalanced, and the camera setup lacks proper zoom solution, nor does it have a dedicated telephoto camera. The SD8G1 implementation seems to be troublesome, too, as sustained performance isn't on par with other rivals running the same or comparable chipset. These drawbacks keep us from recommending the handset right away, yet they are not enough to dismiss the Xiaomi 12's strong points we truly liked.

The Xiaomi 12 is a lovely small-form phone that’ll rival the Galaxy S22 with an attractive and easily portable design, and with some flagship specs too. Saying that, it's not a fully-fledged champion in all regards.

The Xiaomi 12 packs in plenty of punch for a modestly-sized device, and while it looks to be an evident downgrade from the standards of the Pro, there’s still plenty to recommend here based on our earliest impressions, including the screen, performance, and fast-charging. If a smaller Android phone is on your wishlist, then this one might be worth considering along with the Asus Zenfone 8. Check back to see our full verdict on this handset, coming soon.

So, does the Xiaomi 12 deliver on being the everyday flagship? Almost. This is a great smartphone: the screen is gorgeous, it’s wicked fast, looks great, charges fast (and wirelessly) and has a nice camera system, too. It does come with some problems though, like the battery life, the curved display over a flat panel, the busy MIUI skin and the tendency to overheat under strenuous pressure. But for most users, these issues can be looked past in what is a brilliant Android blower that does it all at a competitive price.

It’s hard to find any fault with the Xiaomi 12. There were some decisions there that seemed like a downgrade from the Xiaomi Mi 11 but those were all reasonable compromises considering that it’s a middle child and they wanted to make it as practically compact as possible. If we had to nitpick, the lack of IP68 rating for water resistance and absence of expandable storage via microSD card slot are the two most noticeable shortcomings we could think of. Everything else is spot on. Xiaomi has been consistent that way — nothing overkill or over-the-top — just a good balance of hardware fit for a flagship phone and pretty compelling for its price point. And mind you, there’s at least a Php10k difference between the Xiaomi 12 and many other flagship phones of this caliber. If you want a better camera system, bigger display, and 120W HyperCharge, then there’s the Xiaomi 12 Pro for that. The Xiaomi 12 comes in three variants — 8GB+128GB, 8GB+256GB, 12GB+256GB. The recommended retail price starts from USD749.

Another year, another Xiaomi phone release that makes me wish it were easier to get these phones here in the U.S. Honestly, Xiaomi is likely the only brand that would make me switch away from Verizon just to be able to use these phones on a daily basis. The Xiaomi 12 not only confirmed my desire to see the company enter the western market, but it also made me re-think my idea of not using a compact flagship. I wouldn’t go for something like the smol Galaxy S22, but I am considering picking up the Xiaomi 12 for myself just to use with my Google Fi SIM so I can carry it around with me. Xiaomi has done a wonderful job over the years with its flagship devices, and that trend continues with the Xiaomi 12. If you’re in the market for a new flagship, don’t want (or need) a behemoth like the Galaxy S22 Ultra or iPhone 13 Pro Max, and can actually get your hands on the Xiaomi 12, then you should definitely consider this one.

The Xiaomi 12 smartphone is undoubtedly the lite version of the 12 Pro, but there are a few things like the compact design that makes this phone an excellent option. As far as the processing, camera, battery, and display sections are concerned, you won’t need to worry about anything. Everything about this phone is great, and the Xiaomi 12 can considers a flagship killer phone too. But if you are looking for the alternative option with clean UI support and to avoid the heating issues of the new Snapdragon 8 Gen1 chipset. The Motorola Edge S30 is the best and magnificent choice, definitely check it out.

The Xiaomi 12 smartphone is the younger sibling of the Xiaomi 12 Pro. Like other Xiaomi phones, the phone was also released in china around December 2021, and the rough estimated price is $580 (Rs 42,999 in India) Approx. However, when this phone will come outside of mainland China, there’s a high chance that the price will vary differently for each market. Apart from this, you are getting exceptional features that make your life easier and provide a next-level performance experience with the new 4nm – Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset. Besides this, you will attain an improved Adreno 730 GPU unit. However, the phone is not lacking in any way, and the 6.28-inches OLED panel grants impressive colors and saturation effects with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus protection. Moreover, the screen offers a 120Hz refresh rate and HDR 10+ certification with Dolby Vision support, making the overall viewing experience impressive. The camera department is not far behind as you will attain a flagship-level 50MP primary, 13MP ultrawide, and 5MP telephoto macro lens.

Model:
The Xiaomi 12, the standard entry in Xiaomi’s 2022 family of flagship phones which was launched alongside the Xiaomi 12 Pro. It is worth mentioning that this handset is the company’s first major device to eschew its typical mantra, bigger is better. Instead of putting out a giant smartphone, the 12 has a relatively small form and lesser specifications to match. The Xiaomi 12 Pro on the other hand, does all the heavy lifting with a huge screen, powerful camera array and fast charging. As far as its design is concerned, the Xiaomi 12 comes with a dimensions of 152.7 x 69.9 x 8.1mm and a weight of 180g which is not going to stretch one’s palm or give the wrist a workout. It is quite easy to get the digits around it and touch the power button and volume rocker on the right edge. This is definitely a great phone for those with rather small hands. This is guaranteed by two factors namely the curved-edge display which ensures the device settles nicely against the hand and second, the smooth textured glass on the back of the device which is a treat for the fingers.
In terms of its display, with a diagonal diameter of 6.28 inches, the Xiaomi 12’s screen is a lot smaller than the earlier generation of smartphones from this company. The resolution is FHD+ which is standard for the vast majority of Android phones, only super-premium or super-budget handsets have resolutions above or below this, though it is worth mentioning that both the Mi 11 and 12 Pro beat it. This model is equipped with an AMOLED panel, so colours do look vibrant and there is an impressive contrast. The max brightness of 1100 nits will be sufficiently blinding whether it is being used indoors or in direct sunlight. Apart from that, the phone comes in with a refresh rate of 120Hz, so the display refreshes 120 times per second, which makes motion (from gaming or just scrolling social media) look smooth. In addition, Xiaomi also boasts that the display supports 68 billion colours, with Dolby Vision and HDR10+ support. As for its camera, the Xiaomi 12 has three rear cameras which includes a 50MP f/1.9 main, 13MP f/2.4 ultra-wide and 5MP f/2.4 telemacro snapper. While it is the same as the Mi 11, the predecessor’s 108MP snapper has been replaced with a 50MP. However, resolution is not really everything for photography, which is likely why Xiaomi’s 108MP-to-50MP descent could really be described as an upgrade as the sensor size is bigger now, meaning pictures are brighter. Overall, pictures taken on the main camera look good, with vibrant colours, impressive contrast, and lots of detail. As for its performance, this phone has been equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip along with 8GB or 12GB RAM paired with either 128GB or 256GB storage. In a nutshell, it is a great phone to be explored, depending on the need and preference of the user.
