The Xiaomi 12 Lite’s battery performance earned the device a global score that was slightly above average in our database. Autonomy performance was average, particularly when using the camera and GPS navigation. However, the charging performance was excellent. Charging reached the advertised 67W peak, but that level was maintained for only a few seconds before dropping to 37W. The charge efficiency, as well as the power adapter efficiency, was excellent, too. Overall, discharge currents were low, meaning that the software was well-optimized. Compared with devices from the High-end segment ($400-$599), the Xiaomi 12 Lite’s global score was average. Its autonomy when used moderately and its charging time were average, too, but the efficiency score was above average.

Xiaomi 12 Lite left me with a very pleasant impression. Throughout the testing, I had to remind myself that I was not dealing with a flagship, so I had to look for some weaknesses. The only such drawback for me was the macro camera, which, to be honest, is completely pointless in this set, you could easily do without it. As for the other aspects, the developers have calculated everything correctly. The screen has a high resolution and pleasant color reproduction, the main camera is capable of taking good pictures even at night, the front-facing camera will give a head start to most competitors, and the processor power is enough to perform almost all tasks at a high level. And the battery life is also at a high level. Would I choose the Lite version over its bigger brothers? There are pros and cons here, so I can’t give a definite answer. Can Xiaomi 12 Lite compete in the market as a whole? Absolutely! Xiaomi 12 Lite left a very pleasant impression. The Xiaomi 12 Lite is a great Lite phone of the premium Xiaomi 12-series phone. Besides this, the phone also maintains a pretty competitive price point so that it retains all of those classic features of the Xiaomi 12 lineup. Furthermore, the device got decent chargings, an impressive display, good camera results, and a boxy design layout. Though it might not have excellent battery life, the overused ultra-wide lens is seen on lots of phones. But it doesn’t deny the fact that it’s a worth recommending phone in 2022. Aside from this, if you are looking for an alternative option, you can check out the Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus for better battery and camera support.

The Xiaomi 12 Lite 5G is the most basic model available in the 12-series. While its rear-camera setup looks just like the others in the series, featuring three modules — primary, ultra-wide, and macro – the 12 Lite 5G’s camera modules actually use different sensors, which mainly account for the differences in image quality. Overall, the device behaved well in good lighting conditions. Target exposure and color rendering were pleasant in outdoor situations in both photo and video, but image details were quite low. Indoors, and especially in low-light conditions, however, image noise was often visible with some artifacts. For its price, which is about half of the top-end model in the series, the 12 Lite 5G’s camera performance was quite average overall, even when judging it against other devices in its High-end segment ($400 to $599). The lack of a tele module and a limited ultrawide module, compared with other devices in the segment, hampered the device’s performance.

Xiaomi has come up trumps with the 12 Lite. A comfortable lightweight design is accompanied by great performance, battery life and surprisingly good cameras. It’s a great all-rounder and makes you wonder why you’d need to spend more on a phone?

In summary, the Xiaomi 12 Lite is a very capable smartphone. It has great design, excellent ergonomics, a superb AMOLED display, and stellar haptics. Camera performance is definitely comparable to other devices in the price class and performance is great along with 5G connectivity. The one main issue is middling battery life (only a 4,300 mAh cell) but Xiaomi does include a 67W fast charging brick in the box. And one very glaring issue is no official IP rating, this one is a head-scratcher since some lower-end Xiaomi smartphones have an IP53 rating. For about € 450 it is a great smartphone and there aren’t too many other devices available at this price point. Perhaps the new Pixel 6a is something to consider, although it has a smaller and lower quality display and a plastic back compared to the 12 Lite.

The Xiaomi 12 Lite is another impressively slim and stylish mid-range phone from the brand. It’s a pleasure to use day to day, particularly when it comes to the phone’s excellent AMOLED display and snappy performance. Xiaomi’s phone falls behind rivals such as the OnePlus Nord 2T and the Realme 9 Pro Plus when it comes to camera quality and battery life, however. It’s a classy phone overall, but it doesn’t quite mix it with the very best in its class.

Xiaomi's gunning for the Samsung Galaxy A53 5G with its 12 Lite. This slim phone successfully marries classical styling with fun colour options, a cracking screen and some fancy features like an under-display fingerprint scanner. While its battery life is only ever fine, and the phone's camera mix struggles when the lights drop, it's nevertheless a better package than most of its competition.

It feels oddly disconnected from the rest of the Xiaomi 12 line-up, but that doesn’t stop the 12 Lite from being a competent mid-ranger. We like the design a lot, even if it gives major Apple vibes – but the hardware puts amongst tough competition at this price.

The Xiaomi 12 Lite is a very solid mid-range phone. The lightweight construction is a comfortable change from the heavier alternatives found at this price point, plus the squre-edged design is both modern and makes it easier to hold in the hand. Performance is again very good, as are the cameras if you want something for social media platforms. The software can be a bit clunky at times, and the overly sensitive display takes a little getting used to, but these are minor gripes compared to all the other benefits on offer. If you’re intending to spend this kind of money on a phone in 2022, the Xiaomi 12 Lite needs to be at the very top of your ‘ones to try’ list.

The Xiaomi 12 Lite seems like a solid "lite" version of the more expensive Xiaomi 12X, vanilla 12 and 12 Pro. It maintains a relatively competitive price tag that, also makes sense in the Xiaomi 12 series while retaining some high-end features. А speedy 67W fast charging, flagship-grade OLED panel, big 108MP main sensor and boxy, catchy design make a compelling case. And camera performance is pretty solid, too. Sadly, battery life keeps us from giving the handset an excellent score, the proper ingress protection is gone, so is the microSD card slot and we are getting a bit tired of the overused 8MP ultrawide sensor. Not enough to be a deal-breaker, though. In fact, the Xiaomi 12 Lite is an easy-to-recommend 2022 solution. Just keep an open mind for some older 2021 options as they often offer better price/performance ratio or, in some cases, more versatile camera hardware. Then again, if we go by the previous Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G and 11 Lite price action, price will go down pretty soon, building an even stronger case for the 12 Lite.

But as I wrote recently in the Poco F4 review, it seems Xiaomi’s biggest competition at this price point is itself. The Xiaomi 12 Lite costs $399, the Poco F4 starts at $410, and it has a better Snapdragon processor and faster memory standards (LPDDR5 and UFS 3.1). The Xiaomi 12 Lite does offer a slightly better main camera and display design (symmetrical bezels), but everything else is about equal, down to that useless 2MP macro sensor. If both phones are available in your region, I’d say the Poco is the better option. Otherwise, the Xiaomi 12 Lite, in a vacuum, is yet another very, very good mid-tier phone.
