Wooting launches 80HE Founders campaign, pricing starts at $199.99
Wooting is a company founded in 2015 that helped popularize the idea of gaming keyboards with analog switches. Today, it started accepting preorders for the 80HE, a much-anticipated keyboard sitting between the tiny 60HE and the full-size two HE.
As the name implies, the Wooting 80HE uses an 80% layout. This form factor is slightly more compact than a tenkeyless keyboard while still maintaining compatibility with most keycap sets thanks to the standard-width keys on the bottom row.
The keyboard features the company's analog Lekker switches powered by Hall effect sensors, now in their second iteration. These support adjustable actuation points (0.1 to 4.0 mm), Rapid Trigger, as well as a new "Rappy Snappy" functionality, which supposedly enhances counter strafing.
The Wooting 80HE will come with per-key RGB lighting along with a tiny LED light bar. Users will be able to control the keyboard's functions via the Wootility web application, with the settings all being saved to onboard memory. Other features include a true 8,000 Hz polling rate (both USB polling and matrix scan rate), screw-in stabilizers to eliminate rattle, a polycarbonate switch plate, and a gasket mounting system.
According to Wooting, the first 80HE batch should arrive in August, with pricing starting at $199.99. There's also a standalone module available, allowing keyboard enthusiasts to build their own 80HE with different switches and keycaps.
