Windows 11 update speeds up File Explorer launch times

Microsoft released a new optional update for Windows 11 that aims to fix a frustrating part of the desktop user experience. The software package, officially known as update KB5095093, focuses heavily on improving the initial launch speed of File Explorer. This package is currently available as a voluntary preview download, but these specific performance improvements will automatically roll out to everyone in the mandatory monthly patch scheduled for July 2026.
The speed acceleration does not rely on background preloading tricks, which would keep the app running in the background and quietly drain your computer's memory. Instead, developers reorganized the structural layout of the default Home tab area. Because the default Home tab view constantly pulls data from pinned folders, active cloud storage, and recent files all at once, it acted as a bottleneck for the program. The new design cleans up how these files index, allowing the manager window to open instantly without wasting your system resources.
Fixes repair address bar lag and optimizes disk image mounting
Aside from basic launch speed, the update corrects several interface bugs that disrupted daily folder management. The main address bar works faster, displaying folder paths and dropdown directory suggestions immediately without random input freezing. Official release notes specify that the update improves responsiveness when mounting virtual disk images, optimizing file handling rather than resolving a hard system crash. Local folder renaming is also smoother, fixing a glitch where text was repeatedly selected automatically, or where changing lowercase letters to uppercase failed to update right away.
Outside of file management, this software patch fixes sluggish computer shutdowns. A bug within the Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) was causing computers to hang for several seconds during the power-down sequence, an issue that is now resolved. The package also improves Bluetooth headphone stability and adds a new point-in-time recovery tool to roll back accidental system modifications easily. If you want these speed improvements right away, you can install the optional package manually by checking your system settings today.
