Wild Bastards: strategy shooter roguelike hybrid game featuring space cowboys and cel-shaded graphics announced for 2024

Blue Manchu's Void Bastards launched back in 2019, introducing a unique blend of strategy, RPG, FPS, and roguelike gameplay elements. Now, the developer has announced Wild Bastards as the spiritual successor to Void Bastards.

With Wild Bastards, the developer wanted to take what made Void Bastards special and expand on it. Wild Bastards shakes up the roster of playable characters to include 13 individual space cowboys, each with their own abilities, and it features much of the same strategic, gun-slinging, roguelike gameplay as the original, but the new game will now take place in more expansive environments on the surfaces of exotic planets.

Talking to PC Gamer, Blue Manchu designer, John Chey, said "There's a lot more variety to Wild Bastards's levels compared to Void Bastards. We have six completely different environments, ranging from snow-covered mountains to airless, low-gravity hostile worlds."

Chey goes on to explain that each environment has its own set of areas, including "small settlements, rail stations, roadblocks, and wilderness areas," and it sounds like the different areas all cater to different play styles and character strengths.

According to the listed minimum requirements, it looks like Wild Bastards will run just fine on handhelds, like the Steam Deck or ROG Ally with AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme (curr. US$599.99 at Best Buy). Wild Bastards is scheduled to launch sometime in 2024, and you can follow along its development on the game's Steam page.
