2025 has been the year of the non-rugged mid-range Android smartphone with unprecedentedly large ~8,000mAh batteries. Vivo has not jumped on this bandwagon - until now.
It has abruptly announced that the Y400 5G will be supplanted by a next generation with a battery of no less than 8,200mAh in rated capacity.
The device has been revealed to have a camera hump most like the Vivo T4, (or iQoo Z10, which has brought its own enlarged 7,300mAh battery to Amazon in India) as rumored, said to contain dual 50+2MP shooters, according to a typically reliable X-based leaker.
The Y500 is also now tipped to launch with a more or less full-sized 6.77-inch FHD+ 120Hz AMOLED display of the "micro-quad-curved" (or nearly flat) variety with 3,840Hz PWM dimming and a respectable peak brightness rating of 5,000 nits.
Vivo's impending battery champion is also thought to launch with NFC but without an IR blaster, to boast "SGS 5-star Gold Label" drop & impact resistance and to have IP69+ water resistance to augment its IP68/69 ratings.
The tipster's specs list is the stuff of rumor at present, although it seems to concur with Vivo's official revelations of the Y500's new Glacier Blue, Dragon Crystal Purple and Basalt Black colorways, not to mention references to its ability to withstand exposure to "10,000kPa" jets of water, up to 62,000 screen drops and temperatures of up to 40°C for up to 17 hours on end.
Vivo's teasers also suggest that the Y500 will be more or less standard in terms of bulk and mass, which might also agree with its predicted weight of 213g and thickness of just 8.23mm.
Vivo's "strongest ever 8,200mAh smartphone" will be unleashed on the Chinese market on September 1, 2025.
