The Vietnamese auto company VinFast has announced that all stock of its new VF8 all-electric SUV for sale in the US has now landed in its new market. They come in 2 Eco and Plus SKUs, rated for up to 293 miles of (WLTP) range per charge and 402 horsepower respectively. They will start at just under and over US$50,000 respectively, with additional leasing options.
VinFast is the automotive arm of the Vietnam-based VinTech group currently working on its presence as a source of relatively affordable electric vehicles in the US market. It already markets a City Edition of its VF8 in the country; however, those who lease that vehicle right now and would like to switch to the 'main' Eco or Plus models instead will be able to do so soon.
The company has announced that it has just taken delivery of the VF8 Eco and Plus for the US market ahead of their imminent release. Both variants have an "eSUV" build with 87.7kWh of "usable capacity" rated to charge from 10 to 70% in as little as 31 minutes.
While the VF Plus' dual motors may get 402hp out of that battery (and go from 0 to 60mph in 5.5 seconds), it has an estimated range of 278 miles, compared to 293 in the 349hp VF Eco. It can be reserved for US$49,000 prior to deliveries starting in June 2023, while the Pro starts at US$56,000.

I became a professional writer and editor shortly after graduation. My degrees are in biomedical sciences; however, they led to some experience in the biotech area, which convinced me of its potential to revolutionize our health, environment and lives in general. This developed into an all-consuming interest in more aspects of tech over time: I can never write enough on the latest electronics, gadgets and innovations. My other interests include imaging, astronomy, and streaming all the things. Oh, and coffee.
