Update: Our Nvidia sources have not heard anything that may confirm the existence of a GeForce 1040 GPU. They suggest this could be a typo or a GPU variant based on the MX150 model just for the Lenovo laptops. We'll keep you updated once we find out more about the mysterious GPU.
Back in May, Nvidia was launching the MX150 mobile GPU without too much fanfare, probably knowing that reviewers will not recommend it over the old GTX 950M launched 2 years ago. Even though the budget GPUs are selling well, Nvidia intends to extend the family with the GeForce 1040 model. It is not clear if the new GPU will be part of the GeForce brand or will end up with an MX160 moniker. Either way, the GPU will most likely perform better than the MX150.
Lenovo announced that it would be the first OEM to integrate the upcoming GF 1040 GPU in the existing IdeaPad 320s models. The other specs for the 320S notebooks include:
• Intel Core i5-8250U CPU
• 8 GB DDR4-2400 RAM
• 15.6-inch 1080p IPS display
• 256 GB NVMe SSD
• 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac Wi-fi with Bluetooth 4.1 connectivity
• 1x USB 2.0 Type-A, 1x USB 3.1 Type-A, 1x USB 3.1 Type-C, 1x HDMI, mic and speaker ports
• 14.28 x 9.92 x 0.78 inches size
• 4.2 pounds weight
Lenovo only announced that the European IdeaPad 320S models equipped with the GF 1040 GPU is priced at 759 EUR, or US$899. The US versions are expected to be priced between US$699 – 799.
