Upcoming Xiaomi Redmi flagship tipped to feature camera upgrade and better fingerprint sensor

Xiaomi is expected to be the first one to launch Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 devices. While it’s the Xiaomi 15 series that’s rumored to launch first, we will likely see the next-gen Redmi flagships released after that debut. Speaking of which, the Redmi K80 Pro is tipped to get two notable upgrades.

According to @体验more on Weibo, the upcoming Redmi flagship phone will feature a 3x telephoto camera. Looking back, the Redmi K70 Pro comes with a 50 MP telephoto with 2x optical zoom. While the jump from 2x to 3x may not seem big, it’s still a good upgrade for the camera department.

On the front, the Redmi K80 Pro is said to sport an ultrasonic sensor instead of an optical sensor. This matches with what Digital Chat Station, a well-known Weibo tipster, reported in April. For those who missed it, the report said that the Chinese manufacturers were testing this fingerprint technology.

Worth noting that the ultrasonic fingerprint sensor has been in the smartphone market for quite a while now, with the first flagships featuring the technology being the Galaxy S10 series. Some of the recently released Chinese Android phones have also integrated it, including the iQOO 12 Pro and the Meizu 21 series.

Over the optical sensors, ultrasonic fingerprint offers better accuracy and faster unlocks. But these advantages come with increased price, which is why we don’t usually see it in affordable flagships. Speaking of which, Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 devices are already tipped to be pricier than the current flagship, and if the latest report does hold true, we may not see the Redmi K80 Pro match the price of its predecessor.

As for the other expected specs of Redmi K80 Pro, Digital Chat Station previously hinted that it will come with a 2K screen, a large 5500 mAh battery, and support for 120W fast charging (120W Anker 737 GaNPrime curr. $74.99 on Amazon).
