Ultrabook sized storage: Samsung gives the Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus 128 GB and 256 GB storage options in the US
Since launch, the Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus have only had a 64 GB option in the United States, even though alternatives with 128 GB and 256 GB had gone on sale in other markets.
64 GB is nothing to be scoffed at, especially when combined with a MicroSD card slot which allows up to 400 GB of additional storage for photos and videos, but some users prefer to keep as much as possible on the faster internal storage. More internal storage will benefit load speeds for those who want to keep their photos, videos, and large modern mobile games all internally. Security is also stronger for those who want to run their MicroSD card unencrypted so that it can be used in other devices or with a USB adaptor (e.g., copying content on/off)
The two new variants are available for pre-order from today (1 May) via Samsung.com with shipping and sales starting from 18 May. Both phones seem to be missing the grey color option, but purple, blue, and black are available. The 128 GB Galaxy S9 has an MSRP of US$770, and the 256 GB Galaxy S9 is US$820. The larger Galaxy S9 Plus retails for US$890 on the 128 GB model and US$940 on the 256 GB model.
Everyone who pre-purchases before the end of 17 May will receive a Gear IconX (2018) for free, or the option to purchase a Gear S3 Frontier for US$99, whichever the purchaser would prefer.
