Take-Two Interactive and Rockstar Games' recent employee-related woes may not be over yet. If anything, they're about to get a whole lot worse. The UK government is looking to get involved and investigate allegations of union-busting. Local MP Chris Murray (H/T IGN) brought the issue up in a recent session of UK Parliament. Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer had the following to say:
Every worker has the right to join a trade union and we're determined to strengthen workers rights and ensure they don't face unfair consequences for being part of a union. Our ministers will look into the particular case that he [Murray] raises and will keep him updated
To recall, Rockstar fired as many as 40 employees for allegedly 'distributing and discussing confidential information in a public forum'- a claim hotly contested by employees and third-party reports alike. People Make Games reported that the affected employees were discussing union-related matters in a private Discord server.
The company insists the employee layoff has nothing to do with GTA VI being delayed for a second time, but went ahead and announced a second delay to November 19, 2026. Depending on what action the UK Government takes, we might be looking at further delays, potentially pushing the game to 2027.
