Tuners transform the Tesla Model 3 into a six-ton off-road monster
Even in the upcoming age of electric mobility, ingenious tuners will probably continue to transform their technically complex battery-powered cars into eye-catching and unique EVs. While many professional tinkerer are eager to keep their car street legal in this tuning process, a group of German YouTubers has now transformed a Tesla Model 3 into a definitely not street-legal off-road tank that even throws shade at the gargantuan Hummer EV.
In order to vastly improve the obviously poor off-road capabilities of the US manufacturer's popular electric sedan, the Real Life Guys have fitted their sponsored Tesla Model 3 with two large chains, each weighing 1.3 metric tons. After four weeks of work, the end result looks like an electric tank that should be able to deal with any type of terrain thanks to its massive ground clearance of 31.5 inches, which is 26 inches more than a stock Tesla Model 3.
The YouTube video which has been created over the course of this tuning project shows the extensive welding work on the huge steel structure that houses all necessary components for driving the tank-like chain tracks. Meanwhile, the heavy-duty winch attached to the front of the custom Tesla Model 3 can pull up to six tons, which equals the total curb weight of the heavily modified electric sedan. In a future video, the automotive content creators plan to illustrate the off-road capabilities of their chain-driven Tesla Model 3, and the confident tuners have even offered Tesla CEO Elon Musk a seat for this upcoming test drive.
