The build quality and keyboard on the Toshiba Satellite P755 don't impress, but there's a powerful processor at its heart and the graphics card will tackle all but the most demanding games. If you're looking for a gaming machine that you can feasibly carry around -- and can ignore the above issues -- the P755 might be worth a look.

Finally there’s a larger complaint to consider. The battery life of 1 hour, 44 minutes is paltry. But when it died, the P755 indicated it had over an hour of running time left. That adds up to a lot of troubling stuff to think about when it comes time to decide whether to invest in this laptop. My hunch is that its issues won’t extend to every Satellite, which means that $880 amounts to a big roll of the dice.

At £999, this Toshiba laptop has a lot going for it, but there still isn't an obvious champion of this price point.

The Toshiba Satellite P755D-S5266 does a fairly good job at balancing features and price. For roughly $700, it comes equipped with a quad core processor, Blu-ray drive, large 640GB hard drive and even comes with a USB 3.0 port. The downside is that the AMD Fusion processor falls behind slightly more expensive Core i5 based laptops but does provide better integrated graphics.

The $949 Toshiba Satellite P755-S5272 offers great processing power along with a crisp screen and loud and rich audio. However, poor battery life and weak graphics performance keep this notebook from being one of our favorites. We're also not fans of the finish on this laptop. While you give up a Blu-ray drive, the $899 HP Pavilion dv6t offers better graphics, a nicer design, and longer battery life. The P755 is worth a look for those who crave lots of CPU muscle and serious multimedia chops, but you can do better.

Priced right around $700 for this build, the Toshiba Satellite P755 is a great mid-range machine for the money. The laptop was able to handle complex assignments in Adobe Lightroom with ease, and at 5.44 pounds wasn’t too heavy to lug around in a messenger bag. If you are looking for a laptop, meaning not an Ultrabook or a desktop replacement, the P755 is well worth considering.

The Toshiba Satellite P755 is an impressive all-purpose laptop, if you can get past the less-than-impressive design. The plastic exterior is nice for a cheaper, less specced-out machine, but it doesn't really convey "3D multimedia powerhouse." Still, if you're looking for a nice multimedia and casual-gaming laptop, the P755 performs solidly.

You'll probably want to play games with this unit, which I'm happy to say the unit has no problems with in the games I tried out. Left 4 Dead 2 and Unreal Tournament 3, some of the most graphically intensive multiplayer games popular currently, had no problem at all running at max settings on the machine at its native resolution, and it was able to handle the single player Crysis similarly as well. The graphics card is DirectX 11 capable, and should run anything new coming out for the foreseeable future. The LCD seems responsive enough to play directly on, too, so there shouldn’t be a lot of ghosting when gaming. Altogether, the machine seems a powerful enough choice to handle most anything currently, for less than $1000.

The Toshiba Satellite P755-S5320's Core i3 CPU will serve if your needs go no further than the day-to-day tasks. Its WiDi 2.0, USB 3.0, and USB 2.0 ports that double as charging docks, put the Satellite P755 above most of the competition, but at the end of the day there are cheaper and better laptop solutions out there. The Editors' Choice Asus U56E-BBL6 costs $20 less and features WiMAX and WiDi 2.0 wireless features, as well as a more powerful Core i5 processor.

Performance is certainly this system’s strong point. Though the slow hard drive drags the package down a bit, this system is fast in the demanding workloads that are most likely to strain a laptop’s resources. This computer can handle anything the average consumer will ask of it, and it does so without straining the buyer’s wallet.

Unlike our Editors’ Choice, the Asus U46E-BAL5, the Toshiba Satellite P755-S5390 isn’t intricately appointed in every area: You won’t find on it the Asus U46E-BAL5’s larger hard drive, more RAM, WiMAX, remarkable longevity when not plugged in, or lower price. So we have to let the Asus U46E-BAL5 retain its edge, despite the P755-S5390’s superior performance on all our productivity tests. Even so, the P755-S5390 stands out from the mainstream crowd and is absolutely worth considering if you have a lot of work to do—and quickly.

Non demanding games should be playable with these graphics cards.
NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M:
Mid-range graphics card based on the GT 435M chip (GF108) with higher clock rates and DDR3 support.
Only some 3D games with very low demands are playable with these cards.
AMD Radeon HD 6520G:
Integrated processor graphics card (in the A6-Series of Llano APUs) without dedicated graphics memory and only 320 of the 400 shader cores.
Intel HD Graphics (Sandy Bridge): Processor graphics card which is integrated in the Sandy Bridge Pentium and Celeron processors. Similar to the desktop HD Graphics 2000 and not related to the old Arrandale processor graphics with the same name.
Intel HD Graphics 2000: Integrated graphics card in the Intel Sandy Bridge processors (Core ix-2xxx). The 2000 is the slower, internally GT1 called, version with 6 Execution Units (EUs).
Intel HD Graphics 3000: Integrated graphics card in the Intel Sandy Bridge processors (Core ix-2xxx). The HD 3000 is the faster (internally GT2 called) version with 12 Execution Units (EUs).

Intel Core i5:
2410M:
Dual-core processor based on the Sandy Bridge architecture with an integrated graphics card and dual-channel DDR3 memory controller. The CPU is clocked at 2.3 GHz (Turbo Boost 2.6-2.9 GHz) and the GPU at 650 (1200 MHz Turbo).
AMD AMD A-Series:
A6-3400M: Llano quad-core APU clocked at 1.4-2.3 GHz (Turbo Core) featuring an integrated Radeon 6520G (320 cores, 400MHz) graphics card.
Intel Core i7: The Intel Core i7 for laptops is based on the LG1156 Core i5/i7 CPU for desktops. The base clock speed of the CPUs is relatively low, but because of a huge Turbo mode, the cores can dynamically overclock to up to 3.2 GHz (920XM). Therefore, the CPU can be as fast as high clocked dual-core CPUs (using single threaded applications) but still offer the advantage of 4 cores. Because of the large TDP of 45 W / 55 W, the CPU is only intended for large laptops.
2630QM: Fast Quad-core processor based on the Sandy Bridge architecture with an integrated graphics card and dual-channel DDR3 memory controller.
2670QM: Fast Quad-core processor clocked at 2.2-3.1 GHz based on the Sandy Bridge architecture with an integrated graphics card and dual-channel DDR3 memory controller.
Intel Core i3:
2330M:
Dual-core processor based on the Sandy Bridge architecture with an integrated graphics card and dual-channel DDR3 memory controller. The CPU is clocked at 2.2 GHz and features the Turbo Boost 2.0 only for the graphics card (650/1100MHz).
