The new modular controller features modern sensors and is designed to consistently register motion input with high accuracy. Additional buttons are available, as is typically the case with higher-quality gamepads.

We previously reported on a controller from Thrustmaster that offers a certain amount of modularity. With the Eswap X2 H.E, the brand has now introduced another product in this segment. The gamepad comes with two modules, each with a joystick, as well as a swappable d-pad. Swappable grips and triggers are also included. Users can choose between a symmetrical and an asymmetrical layout, meaning the analog sticks can be positioned either on the same level, similar to Sony's DualSense (from $74 on Amazon) for the PlayStation 5, or offset like on Microsoft's Xbox controller.

The Eswap X2 H.E utilizes Hall Effect joysticks, which are intended to maintain high precision over time without developing stick drift, which causes unintended sensor noise that can result in incorrect inputs. According to the manufacturer, the buttons are mechanical and allow for quicker responses and input. The actuation distance is specified at just 0.3 millimeters.

On the back, as is typical for higher-end or at least mid-range controllers, there are a total of four additional buttons. The controller is officially compatible with Xbox consoles like the Series X/S, Xbox One as well as Windows PCs. That said, the Thrustmaster gamepad always requires a wired connection. Given the price of well over €150, this may make the X2 H.E a little bit less attractive for some gamers.
