Think smarter: Motorola teases ThinkPhone as business-grade upgrade for smartphone market
Motorola has teased the ThinkPhone, a smartphone that leaked several times last year. While the device's full release date remains unknown, Motorola's teaser confirms several details about the forthcoming smartphone. On the one hand, the ThinkPhone will fall under Motorola's product stack rather than Lenovo's, presumably because of the latter's limited association with smartphones outside China. The ThinkPhone will retain ThinkPad branding though, including the nod to the series' infamous red TrackPoint. Seemingly, the smartphone will be marketed as the 'ThinkPhone by motorola', not simply the ThinkPhone.
On the other hand, the teaser has revealed a few design elements, such as a carbon fibre texture adorning the device's back panel. The ThinkPhone also has flat edges, mirroring a recent trend among Android smartphone OEMs. Motorola appears to have equipped the ThinkPhone with a special hardware button too, the use of which remains unknown at this stage. Unfortunately, leaks have not revealed the button's purpose.
So far, Motorola has teased that the ThinkPhone will debut during Lenovo's CES showcase, which you can watch on the latter's dedicated website. Based on earlier leaks, the ThinkPhone will be available with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chipset, a 144 Hz display and a 5,000 mAh battery that supports wireless charging. The ThinkPhone should offer a triple rear-facing camera set-up as well, with 50 MP primary, 13 MP ultra-wide-angle and 2 MP tertiary sensors. Pricing details and availability have not leaked yet, although we imagine that more will be unveiled during Lenovo's CES 2023 showcase.
