Some fresh Xperia 1 V tidbits have surfaced, but it appears one of them is not too trustworthy. Once again, it has been reported that a potential Sony Xperia 1 V has been benchmarked on Geekbench, but despite the best efforts of some fans, the original record seems unavailable to the public. As shared by a usually reliable source (SumahoDigest), the alleged Geekbench entry is for model “Sony XQ-DT72”, which is reasoned out to be a potential 2023 Xperia 1. The OpenCL score for GPU testing stands at 11,647 points, which is basically double the amount of the predecessor (Adreno 740 iGPU vs. Adreno 730 iGPU).
So, while that particular benchmark leak appears to be pretty fishy, especially considering the suggested performance increase between the Xperia 1 IV’s iGPU component and the Xperia 1 V’s, another rumor from ZACKBUKS arrives in a more credible manner. The known Xperia leaker states that the Sony camera team might utilize LG Innotek’s “Optical Telephoto Zoom Module”, which offers the double benefit of delivering 4x to 9x magnification while also coming in such a slim form that it eradicates the need for a camera bump. It would be a surprising change for Sony to move away from its own camera expertise but the Xperia 1 V needs to be stuffed to the gills with the latest tech to justify its likely eye-watering asking price.
There could be good news on the horizon for long-term Xperia fans who are used to Sony taking forever to gradually release the latest Xperia 1 smartphone in their market. The Xperia 1 IV took three months from its China launch (June) to become officially available in the US (September) and the Xperia 1 III was also tardy in getting from China to the US and UK (over two-and-a-half months). But another tipster reckons that Sony is already two months ahead in the testing phase of the Xperia 1 V in comparison to its 2022 predecessor, so a launch could take place as early as April 2023. This could mean that supporters of the much-loved line outside of China could witness a US/UK/worldwide Sony Xperia 1 V launch by June with a bit of luck.
