Chinese buyers can now order the new Tesla Model Y L after the car appeared on the company’s online configurator. Prices start at RMB 339,000 ($47,180) for the newest version of the best-selling electric SUV.
Customers can now confirm the Model Y L specs on Tesla’s website. It promises a driving range of 751 km (467 miles) according to CLTC standards. It has a top speed of 210 km/h (130.5 mph) and can accelerate from a standstill to 100 km/h in 4.5 seconds.
The Model Y L is only available with a Dark Premium interior, but the company promises a light option will be introduced down the line. Buyers will also have to content themselves with just the 19-inch Mecha Wheels for now. However, they can opt for a Starlight Gold exterior color option for RMB 12,000.
Perhaps the stand-out feature is the 6-seat configuration. Thanks to the extended chassis length, the Model Y L is roomier, with a maximum cargo space of 2,539 litres when the last two rows of seats are folded flat.
The second-row seats are the star of the show, each equipped with electric armrests. However, for the first time ever for a Model Y variant, the third row seats can comfortably accommodate adults. Tesla has also added air vents to the C-pillars for the benefit of rear-row occupants.
The Model Y L costs about $3,600 more than the Chinese Model Y Long Range AWD and features a bigger battery pack. Tesla is projecting a September delivery start date.
