The new Tesla Model Y L comes with electronically adjusted suspension that is crafted to bring the ultimate in ride comfort when six passengers are traveling long distances.
That is why it was interesting to see the outcome of the moose test that the first Model Y L reviews have been subjecting the six-seater to. The so-called moose or elk test can determine whether the vehicle will remain stable when it needs to swerve suddenly to avoid hitting an object on the road, and how the 2-ton SUV handles.
There was a bit more roll than with the regular Model Y passing the same test, as the Model Y L is longer and, with six adult passengers seated in the four captain chairs and two third-row seats, also heavier. Still, it bounced right back and passed the moose and brake tests with flying colors.
The Model Y L review praised the granular response of the acceleration pedal, the smooth steering, and the ride comfort, with the suspension pacifying the vibrations from a speed bump instead of transferring them to the body of the vehicle.
In short, the new Model Y L six-seater can be driven rather violently and still remain stable under pressure despite the longer wheelbase, taller body, and suspension that is tuned for comfort rather than for aggressive cornering.
