Tesla prices 6-seat Model Y L $12,000 more with free Supercharging and $8,000 in options

Elon Musk has bitten his tongue, and Tesla US is now taking orders for the larger Model Y L six-seater SUV that was first made available for the Chinese market and for the AWD Premium version at that.
It is the closest thing that Tesla will have to a big 3-row family hauler until the rumored Cybertruck SUV eventually materializes. The Model Y L is longer than the Model Y by seven inches and also taller, with a total storage capacity of 89 cubic feet and captain chairs that fold flat.

Every available option that Chinese buyers have to pay for comes for free with the Model Y L Launch Edition in the US. Granted, the free FSD and Supercharging will last a year, but the 20" Uberhelix wheels, the new Cosmic Silver color that will stay exclusive to the Model Y in the US, and even the $1,000 tow hitch package will be free with the $61,990 purchase.
Given that the Model Y L freebies are worth about eight grand, the $12,000 price difference with the Model Y Premium AWD doesn't seem as high. Moreover, the Launch Edition buyers are getting exclusive badging, floor mats, puddle lights, suede dash inserts, and sill plates for bragging rights, so picking a Model Y L before the shorter SUV version seems like a no-brainer.
The Model Y L Premium AWD accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds, and the 83 kWh battery can propel it for 325 miles on the 19-inch wheel set. Fast charging is still capped at 250 kW, though, as Tesla only has one vehicle with a modern 800 V powertrain, the Cybertruck.
Tesla Model Y L seating comfort
The two captain seats with armrests in the second row recline 125 degrees and are not only heated, but ventilated, too. The third row of seats in the Model Y L is only heated, but the head and knee spacing is much larger than in the 7-seat Model Y where Tesla simply threw a couple of child seats in the trunk and called it a day.
The Model Y L is seven inches longer, with a flatter back that leaves way more headspace for the adults sitting in the four rear seats. Unlike the deprecated Model X version with six seats, however, the third row of the Model Y L folds flat like the second with the touch of two buttons, as all seats can bend individually, depending on the combination of passengers and cargo that has to be transported.
Speaking of cargo, the trunk space left after all six seats of the Model Y L are standing up is enough for a few small suitcases. Besides way more personal space than in any of Tesla's previous such solutions, the third-row passengers get a reading light, A/C vent, cupholder, and phone holder with a USB-C charging port.
There are individual control buttons in the trunk wall on the left side for each of the four rear seats. The Model Y L seats fold automatically, but the system is different for the third row compared to the autofolding function in the 2026 Model Y refresh. The two captain chairs in the second row fold completely flat with the help of the front seats that automatically move a tad forward to fit the headrests.
The third row of seats in the Model Y L also folds automatically, but instead of moving the captain seats forward to fit, the headrests drop and the two seats lie completely flat. This leaves ample cargo space in the back that can fit a larger air mattress than the inflatable ones sold for the Model Y on Amazon. The second-row seats of the Model Y Long Wheelbase hit a toasty 104°F in two minutes when the ambient temperature is 5°F, a little thing that matters.
The new Model Y L is only Tesla's second vehicle that comes with Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) and PowerShare options after the Cybertruck, adding to its family hauler street cred, especially in emergencies. It is also the AWD Model Y with the longest range available in the US, so it is likely to sell like hot cakes and boost Tesla's Q4 numbers. The Model Y L will be produced locally, too, and Tesla has already begun churning out the first batch coming from its Texas Gigafactory.
