Tesla shows Robotaxi steel and wood design with Cybertruck vibes
On the run-up to its annual shareholder meeting where the fate of Elon Musk's multibillion pay package is likely to be decided, Tesla has posted a new and brazen promo video that is pulling out all stops to convince people of the company's future prospects.
So much so, that Tesla might be leaking the first glimpses of the vehicle built on its next generation platform for mass market electric cars like the Robotaxi, or the frozen Model 2 project.
At one minute into the video, Tesla shows a side view of a so-called "NV93 vehicle package," as shown on the signage of the design studio.
Coincidentally, a leak about Tesla's next-gen vehicle earlier this year pegged the Redwood project's internal number as NV9X, too, so the "package" displayed here might be of one of the Robotaxi prototypes, given that it seems to carry no steering wheel.
It does have a large and cushy seat visible, though, as well as what seems to be a wooden interior. While that's not the first time Tesla uses wooden frames for prototype designs, the beginning of the video shows some wood drilling and carving for a brief second, too.
Walter Isaacson's biography of Elon Musk revealed that he intended to release a Robotaxi before a Model 2 from the very beginning, and only relented when he was presented a rather futuristic design of Tesla's next-gen vehicle.
Some interior elements made of natural and sustainable material like wood could certainly fit the bill, but there's more in the new Tesla video teaser.
At the very beginning, it also shows a front lip or a rear diffuser formed in a novel manner, yet the element carries the Cybertruck's distinct angular shapes. It also glistens as if it is made of stainless steel, just like the body of Tesla's futuristic electric pickup truck.
A compact Robotaxi built with premium materials and looking futuristic is certain to turn heads, and that might be why Tesla is teasing it ahead of its official August announcement.
