Tesla's lowest-ever Cybertruck price climbs 25% after manufactured urgency to buy

Tesla has bumped Cybertruck pricing for the second time in six months, and once again there were no warnings for the overnight configurator update with $5,000 more asked from future buyers.

On February 19, Tesla quietly listed a Dual Motor AWD Cybertruck with cloth seats for $59,990, the cheapest the truck had ever been. Elon Musk then posted, "Only for the next 10 days." These five words made delivery estimates immediately start slipping from June to September and even into 2027, as Tesla itself has admitted the Cybertruck lines run at only a fraction of their initially envisioned capacity. Tesla pointed to this as proof of overwhelming demand, but some considered it a manufactured urgency.

Needless to say, on March 1 the Cybertruck price jumped $10,000 to $69,990, just as promised. Five months later this has happened again. The Dual Motor AWD trim rose from $69,990 to $74,990, and the Premium AWD climbed from $79,990 to $84,990. The Cyberbeast, notably, was left untouched at $99,990, avoiding the venture into hundred-grand territory.

Tesla has admitted the Cybertruck line is running at roughly 10% of planned capacity, meaning margins on every unit built matter more than usual. This also fits a rather familiar Musk playbook as Tesla manufactures urgency, lets waitlists balloon, then raises the price and calls it demand. The stunt with the cheapest $59,990 Cybertruck model worked, but the offer vanished in just ten days.

Moreover, Tesla posted record Q2 2026 deliveries and its first revenue growth in over a year, yet operating profit fell sharply and free cash flow turned negative as AI and infrastructure spending surged. Squeezing some extra margin out of a slow seller like the flagship Cybertruck helps offset that pressure, even if it undercuts the "affordable EV truck" narrative Tesla once sold.

In the meantime, rumors of a Cybertruck SUV continue to swirl, with Musk teasing something "way cooler than a minivan" not long ago when asked if Tesla will ever make a true family hauler. If that vehicle ever reaches production, it may exhibit the same pattern of overpromising and creating somewhat artificial scarcity in the beginning, followed by toying around with the price to gauge what the market would bear.
