Tesla’s unveiling of the Model 3 in 2016 marked its push for more affordable EVs. The company has never looked back since then, and the sales of the electric sedan have topped three million since production started in 2017.
According to a Weibo post by Tesla China (translated with Google Translate), the Model 3 remains the most popular battery-powered sedan in the world, retaining the top spot for seven consecutive years. It is the real mass-market EV, as somebody takes delivery of a Model 3 every 90 seconds.
The post also advertises the Model 3 in China with zero-interest financing for five years for as low as RMB 2,460 per month. Tesla is running a similar promotion on the Model 3 in the US, offering 0% APR for up to 60 months, but only with the additional purchase of Full Self-Driving (FSD).
The Tesla Model 3 has seen several refreshes. The latest was the “Highland,” which introduced a sleeker font and slimmed-down headlights. The aerodynamic improvements also slightly extended the driving range.
Tesla has unveiled a Model 3 Plus in China with a higher-capacity NMC battery supplied by LG, which is expected to boost the EV’s driving range significantly. It was announced alongside a new Model Y L with three rows of seats.
