Everspace 2 has been discounted by 70% on GOG. It is a space-themed game that lets you pick between a wide range of ships, weapons and explore multiple galaxies, each with their share of secrets and puzzles.

Everspace 2 is a sequel to the popular Rogue-like space shooter Everspace. However, it takes a different turn, introducing ARPG elements, which allows for greater replayability once the story ends. It doesn't have the depth of conventional space-themed games like Eve Online and Elite Dangerous, making it ideal for gamers looking for a more relaxed experience that doesn't involve sinking hundreds of hours (and dollars) just to stay competitive.

In Everspace 2, you play as Adam Roslin, a clone who finds himself in the midst of a galaxy-wide conflict after an accident at a mining outpost. Adam's clone status makes him a target for Colonial forces who inadvertently clash with his captors. He then goes on to escape his confinement with Drax, a fellow captive and Ben, his companion, who gets severely injured. The trio then makes their way to a hidden planet that serves as your base of operations. Everspace 2's story isn't winning any prizes and is chock full of sci-fi tropes, but that's fine.

Gameplay in Everspace 2 is primarily centred around space combat. The game lets you pick between ten ships (Scout, Vanguard, Stinger, Intercepter, Sentinel, Striker, Wraith, Gunship, Bomber and Vindicator). You unlock ships by purchasing them with in-game currency earned by completing missions and selling loot. The final tier of unlocks requires you to complete a particular set of quests for a specific merchant.

While not an open-world game in the strictest sense, Everspace 2 lets you explore eight galaxies in the base game, each with unique planets and moons. Every location has its share of puzzles that can be solved for extra loot, and some of them can be particularly frustrating. Achievement hunters will have a field time 100%-ing every location because some of the mysteries are nigh-impossible to unlock without a guide.

Once you're done with the story, you'll primarily be grinding 'Ancient Rifts', an area unlocked exclusively by items obtained in-game. They throw every conceivable enemy in the game at you, and if you take too much damage, you get demotivated and have to start over. Unfortunately, the game places arbitrary restrictions on your loadout, allowing only three (or four with the right gear) 'Legendary' weapons to be equipped. That might make sense from a balance point of view, but a game should have no business telling players what gear they can or cannot use.

Everspace 2 can be purchased on GOG for $15, 70% less than its asking price of $50. The game has two pieces of DLC, the recently unveiled Wrath of the Ancients ($24.99) and the older Titans ($8.99). Both add new locations, enemies and expand upon the game's story. The game doesn't require much in the way of hardware (Core i5-2600K, GeForce GTX 970/Radeon RX 6400, 8 GB RAM, and 35 GB hard drive space) and can run on any system built in the past decade, including handheld gaming consoles.
