Stronghold Crusader: Definitive Edition officially launched on Steam on July 15 and got off to a dream start. It quickly secured the number one spot in SteamDB’s “Popular Releases” and “Trending Games,” while also topping the Steam top sellers list as of July 21, 2025.
FireFly Studios hasn’t just released a simple remaster – they’ve created a feature-rich strategy package aimed at both longtime fans and newcomers. The updated version of the classic 2002 castle-building RTS normally sells for around $20, but it’s currently available for about $18 thanks to a 10% launch discount valid until July 29. The game has already gathered over 2,500 Steam reviews, boasting a very positive rating of 90%.
When it comes to gameplay, Crusader stays true to its roots. Set during the Crusades, you lead your forces through scorching deserts, lay siege to enemy strongholds and build your own fortresses – complete with granaries, catapults and towering stone walls. But this release offers much more than just a nostalgic trip down memory lane.
FireFly has packed the Definitive Edition with new content and upgrades. You’ll find eight additional units, four new AI lords, two fresh campaigns and several skirmish trails. On the technical side, the game now features high-resolution graphics, a re-recorded soundtrack and the return of the original voice cast. It also includes larger maps, a co-op mode, new multiplayer scenarios and full Steam Workshop support. Plus, the Definitive Edition of Stronghold Crusader is Steam Deck (available on Amazon for around $460) verified, making it suitable for gaming on the go.
