The Tesla Model Y has earned the IIHS Top Safety Pick+ for 2025. The electric SUV earned the honor for the seventh consecutive year.

The Tesla Model Y has been awarded the highest safety rating by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). It is the seventh consecutive time the SUV has earned the honor.

Tesla China’s official Weibo account shared the accomplishment. The post, reported by @Muskonomy on X, was quoted by CEO Elon Musk: “Model Y rated highest in safety.”

The IIHS is a US-based independent, not-for-profit organization that carries out rigorous crash tests and vehicle safety evaluations. Its highly coveted safety ratings include Good, Acceptable, Marginal, or Poor. The body subjects automobiles to frontal, side, rollover, and rear-impact tests.

Tesla China revealed that the Model Y achieved the highest possible marks in occupant protection and crash avoidance technologies. It claimed the electric SUV attained a “five-star safety grand slam.”

The Model Y has earned high safety ratings from all over the world. It has been awarded top stars by the China Insurance Automotive Safety Index (C-IASI), the Australasian New Car Assessment Program (ANCAP), the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), and the European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP).

The Tesla Model Y remains the best-selling battery electric vehicle globally, accounting for 10.9 percent of all BEV sales in 2024, according to AutoVista24. It was also the first EV to top car sales worldwide.
