TCL is one of the largest TV makers in the world. They are one of the few TV makers that actually make their own display panels. This allows TCL to price their TVs quite aggressively, a fact that has helped the company achieve the market share that it has. So, it is only natural for TCL to also push for a share of the gaming monitor market by following the same playbook: Make good monitors and price them aggressively.

Take for example the TCL 27P2A Pro, a 27-inch Mini LED gaming monitor with a QHD resolution and a 320 Hz refresh rate. It has a full retail price of $500. But, you can now get the TCL 27P2A Pro from Walmart for just $249. This is an enormous $249 or 50.2% discount.

Looking at some specs of the TCL P2A Pro, we have a:

• Mini LED backlighting with 180 Local Dimming zones

TCL also claims that the monitor covers 99% sRGB, 93% AdobeRGB, and 95% DCI-P3 coverage. Combined with an advertised Delta E of < 3, the TCL 27P2A Pro is not only a good gaming monitor but is also pretty fit for a color-accurate monitor for creators. Now, the TCL 27P2A Pro does have its share of problems and cutbacks. The biggest and, perhaps, the most obvious is the 180 Local Dimming zones. This is a rather low number, which will result in sub-optimal HDR performance, compromised black levels, visible Halos around on-screen objects, and more.

TCL does say that it has, among other fixes, tuned the algorithm to manage these issues. But, you can't usually iron out a hardware limitation like this. So, if the low number of Local Dimming zones are an issue for you, look elsewhere.

Overall, the TCL 27P2A Pro will be an excellent companion to a mid-range, QHD-capable gaming PC. The monitor will also go pretty well with a gaming console like the Sony PS5 (get it on Amazon), as it has two HDMI 2.1 ports as well as a Display Port 1.4.
