Subnautica 2, the sequel to the highly-rated underwater survival game Subnautica, has been in the works for quite some time. Last year, Unknown Worlds Entertainment, the developer, provided the first glimpse into the sequel and announced that early access will be available in 2025, and a full release is set for 2026.
In a recent Q&A video, Donya, the community manager for Unknown Worlds, was asked about the early access release date. “We're not quite ready to share one just yet,” Donya commented and asked fans to stay tuned to social media channels for updates. While the exact date for early access is still unconfirmed, the video revealed interesting details about the upcoming sequel.
Subnautica 2- early access, VR support, and Game Pass availability
The Waterside Q&A video featured Donya, the community manager and Scott (also known as Obraxis), the Creative Producer - and they answered some of the most common questions asked by fans.
One of the main questions was what platforms Subnautica 2 will be available on - PlayStation, Xbox, or Switch. "Currently, we're working on the Early Access release on platforms that support Game Preview or Early Access programs. So that's PC and Xbox,” explained Scott. "We do plan to bring it to other platforms, but when the time is right,” he added.
Further, Scott was asked if the sequel will be available in VR. To this, Scott responded, "We're not currently working on VR support, but who knows what could happen in the future.”
During the Q&A, Donya also clarified that Subnautica 2's early access will be a paid experience. While the exact price is not yet known, the early access price will be lower. Plus, Game Pass players can dive in as soon as the early access is out. "If you are an Xbox Game Pass subscriber, Early Access will be available on day one,” Donya explained.
Speaking of updates, recently, Unknown Worlds announced that Subnautica will be available on mobile platforms. The mobile port created in collaboration with Playdigious is all set to release on July 8th for Android as well as iOS devices. At the moment, there’s a 10% discount on pre-orders.
