Stellantis has initiated a recall for nearly 8,400 2024-2025 Dodge Charger electric vehicles due to a software flaw that renders them too silent, posing a risk to pedestrians. This move comes amid a broader wave of safety actions impacting hundreds of thousands of vehicles across the automotive giant's lineup and the wider industry.

The recall of these Dodge Charger Daytona vehicles is due to an amplifier software issue that might prevent the vehicles from emitting exterior sound to warn pedestrians and nearby vehicles of their silent approach. This increases the risk of accidents and injuries, particularly for pedestrians and other drivers who may not notice the approaching vehicle. Owners of affected Chargers should expect notifications by July 10, 2025, with dealers offering a complimentary software update for the amplifier.

This latest action follows a series of safety checks for Stellantis. In May 2025, Dodge Hornet SUVs faced a recall over rearview cameras failing to display images while backing up. December 2024 saw over 300,000 Ram pickups recalled due to inoperable safety features.

Further highlighting an ongoing industry trend, Stellantis today, June 28th, announced a massive recall of over 250,000 additional vehicles in the U.S. This widespread action, affecting 250,651 2022-2025 Pacifica and Voyager vehicles, addresses improperly sealed side curtain airbags. The U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) warns that airbags with insufficient pressure retention elevate the risk of ejection and injury during a collision. Dealers will inspect and replace these airbags free of charge.

The recall spree extends beyond Stellantis. Just weeks ago, Honda recalled 259,033 SUVs and sedans (Acura and Honda brands) due to a brake pedal pivot pin that wasn't correctly secured, allowing the pedal to shift. This month, Ford also issued a “Do Not Drive” warning for 2,345 trucks following the discovery of missing retaining springs for the brake booster pushrod, which could lead to a sudden loss of braking ability.
