Monopixel Games has just launched their new horror-adventure title, Last Report, on Steam. Freshly released (July 11), the game takes players through a short but tense journey as a park ranger at Among Green Trees National Park. The game's introductory pricing is $3.99, discounted from its standard $4.99, available until July 25.
Last Report places you in a remote ranger station during night shifts. Gameplay primarily involves monitoring surveillance cameras, documenting sightings, and logging unusual activity. Simple tasks quickly give way to unsettling discoveries. Conversations with other rangers over radio gradually unveil deeper and darker mysteries about the park.
Visually, the game uses detailed pixel art. Its animations and atmospheric audio go hand-in-hand with the tension. Unlike typical horror titles that rely heavily on jump scares, Last Report uses a subtle, slow-building sense of dread. Gameplay pacing encourages a lot of careful observation, which should make players feel both in control and vulnerable at the same time.
Comparatively, Last Report should feel similar to cklassic indie titles such as Firewatch or Observation Duty. Like Firewatch, the game's narrative is driven by dialogues and visual storytelling. Players looking for quick scares may not find what they're after here. Instead, Last Report will be liked by fans of investigative gameplay and psychological tension.
Early player reviews are great, earning the game a "Very Positive" rating from over 170 Steam reviewers. Fans have a lot of appreciation for the moody atmosphere and minimalist mechanics. However, critique is also a part of the equation, especially the game's short length - approximately one to two hours of gameplay - and unclear instructions regarding the report logging system. In response, Monopixel Games quickly released Hotfix 1 to address key issues.
Last Report runs on Unity Engine, which results in a small download size of around 200 MB. It's playable on most PCs, requiring minimal specs (Intel Core i3, 4 GB RAM). The game supports multiple languages, including English, Polish, and Russian, with full subtitle options. For its current launch price of $3.99, fans of short, atmospheric horror might find it worthwhile.
