BioShock Remastered is now less than $10 on Steam. The game is an absolute accomplishment in almost all areas, from art direction and story to combat. As such, IGN gave the game a rating of 9.7/10 in their launch review.

When it comes to immersive FPS action games, the original BioShock is arguably one of the best. Initially released in 2007, the game manages to combine a thought-provoking narrative with fun, action-packed gameplay and a phenomenal setting. IGN called the game one of those “monumental experiences you'll never forget”, making it a must-play for gamers of all ages and tastes.

So, if you’ve yet to play BioShock, now is the time to do it as BioShock Remastered is now only $4.99 on Steam. This 75% discount is set to expire on July 24 (linked at the end).

BioShock explores the dark side of unbridled ambition

BioShock revolves around the aftermath of the collapse of Rapture, an underwater megacity. Rapture is the brainchild of Andrew Ryan, an industrialist who was fed up with man-made limits imposed on the creativity of individuals. In Rapture, Andrew Ryan sought to create a city where nothing hindered a man from realizing his full potential, whether it was in scientific endeavors like medicine or in art.

The city, however, failed under the weight of Andrew Ryan’s ambition, with the city now a desolate ruin under the sea. As a survivor of a plane crash, you end up at Rapture by pure chance and have to escape to the surface.

BioShock is a single-player FPS with a linear level design. The levels are beautifully crafted and are populated by enemies ranging from ADAM-crazed Splicers to monstrosities known as Big Daddies. Players deal with these enemies using weapons like a shotgun and abilities like telekinesis through equipping Plasmids. You can also upgrade the weapons and abilities throughout the game.

It is this combination of conventional weapons and nifty abilities that gives BioShock’s combat its characteristic whimsy. You can shoot enemies, burn them to a crisp, paralyze with lightning to deliver a meaty blow, throw things at them using telekinesis, and more. There is even an ability that lets you unleash a swarm of bees on your enemies.

Overall, BioShock’s combat is super fun and, at times, quite intense since enemies aren’t dumb like many games and can be a handful to deal with.

Long story short, BioShock nails every aspect of the game design. From the enhanced graphics of the Remastered version, a deep narrative, and engaging combat, BioShock Remastered should be on your playlist.
