Blast Furnace Games has released A Gentlemen’s Dispute on Steam. It looks to be a pretty fun multiplayer party brawler with a taste for absurd destruction. The game has been designed for quick rounds of chaotic matches, where players can use both weapons and environmental hazards to basically outlast one another.
Matches support up to eight players, either online or in local split-screen. Each round begins on destructible arenas where floors can collapse, trains can barrel through, and sharks may lunge from the water. Weapons are equally unpredictable, ranging from melee strikes to explosives. Between rounds, players select perks that alter their abilities and strategies.
The game launched with a very accessible price point - listed at $7.99, but now available at a discounted rate of about $4.95 during release week. A Supporter Pack is also available, priced separately, which gets you cosmetic extras such as outfits, victory animations, and player titles without affecting gameplay. Blast Furnace Games had previously made a demo available, but this was removed ahead of the full release.
Let's talk about system requirements. Even older hardware can handle the title, as the game only demands 4 GB of RAM and entry-level GPUs. It also runs on both Windows and macOS, with support for multiple control schemes. The interface and subtitles also come in a wide set of languages.
Early community responses are a good sign of the unpredictability of the matches - this is voiced in multiple reviews. Players love the destructible arenas and perks, which keeps the rounds fresh. However, not all is bright and dandy. As per some negative reviews, the balance can feel inconsistent, as certain perks or hazards can swing the outcome too sharply. There are also scattered reports of minor issues with controller and keyboard overlap, though these do not appear widespread.
While A Gentleman's dispute in no way "redefines" the multiplayer genre, it follows a trend that has seen a lot of success as of late. Gamers have been appreciating humor and lighthearted chaos in recent hit games like Peak and R.E.P.O. If you're a fan of such games, the low price point should make it easier for you to get into the A Gentleman's Dispute. You can check out the full Steam store page here.
