Even though Prey didn't get much in the way of critical acclaim at launch, the often-slept-on immersive sim is a must-play for anyone who is a fan of the genre. It has now received a hefty 90% price cut on Steam, along with all of its post-launch content, including the Mooncrash DLC that adds a Roguelike twist to the game.
Prey, at its heart, is an FPS game. But, you'll quickly learn that you can't shoot your way out of every situation. Weapons are ineffective in the early game, ammo is scarce and enemies are aplenty, incentivizing you to look for alternate routes and evade combat wherever possible. There are multiple ways to play Prey, and each play though will reveal something you might have missed on the last one.
Prey is set in Talos I, a space station orbiting earth. As the game progresses, you unlock more parts of the ship, and new horrors with it. And yes, there are long space sections that have to drift through zero gravity - both inside and outside Talos I. Next to the never-ending stream of enemies, you find remnants of a mostly functional space station, survivors, their stories and even a bunch of side-quests to keep you occupied.
