Limbo and Inside, two of the most acclaimed indie platformers in recent years, are now available at a steep discount. Developed and published by Danish studio Playdead, Limbo debuted in July 2010, followed by Inside in June 2016. Both titles stand out for their minimalist controls and subtle, atmospheric sound design. You can get a first look at both games below.
Limbo
In Limbo, a nameless boy embarks on a surreal journey through a monochrome world of shadows in search of his missing sister. The story unfolds entirely through visuals, atmosphere and subtle hints – without a single word. Gameplay combines precise platforming with clever physics-based puzzles. The boy can run, jump, climb and manipulate objects to navigate deadly traps, hostile creatures and other hazards. Trial and error plays a central role: deaths are often sudden and brutal, but never permanent.
In its review, German gaming magazine GameStar awarded Limbo a solid 81 out of 100. Testers praised its dense atmosphere, cleverly crafted physics puzzles, varied level design and touches of macabre humor. They noted, however, that the short playtime and intentionally vague story might not appeal to everyone – though that ambiguity is a key part of the game’s charm. On Steam, Limbo has around 36,000 reviews with a very positive average rating of 92%. On Metacritic, it holds a Metascore of 88 and a User Score of 8.0. Normally priced at $10, the game is available on Steam for around $1 until May 23 with a 90% discount. According to SteamDB, this price point has occurred regularly in the past.
Inside
Much like in Limbo, Inside puts players in control of a silent boy navigating an oppressive 2.5D world – this time set in a dystopian landscape that raises more questions than it answers. The gameplay builds on the minimalist platforming and environmental puzzles of its predecessor while introducing new elements like mind control, underwater sections and a steadily rising sense of tension driven by carefully crafted scripted events.
Inside also impressed in GameStar’s review, earning 86 out of 100 points. The magazine highlighted its intense atmosphere and carefully crafted pacing, with particular praise for the enigmatic ending. Some criticism was directed at the short playtime and occasionally repetitive puzzle mechanics. On Steam, the game boasts over 61,000 reviews with an outstanding 97% positive rating. On Metacritic, it holds a Metascore of 87 and a User Score of 8.5. Normally priced at around $20, Inside is currently available for just $2 with a 90% discount until May 23. According to SteamDB, this level of discount isn’t uncommon, but the price has never dropped lower.
