This new version of the company's smartwatch rolls out globally in February, next to a new SmartWatch 3 holder that allows the customization of the wearable with any standard 24 mm strap.

Sony moves forward with its SmartWear family of products and services by announcing a new SmartWatch 3 edition that comes with a stainless steel finish, accompanied by a few concept devices and new Lifelog collaborations. "Our approach to smart, wearable technology is based on the fundamentals of building depth and variety in user experiences, and providing choice with beautiful, functional products," says Kaz Tajima, Senior Vice President, Head of UX Creative Design and Planning at Sony Mobile Communications.

The stainless steel edition of SmartWatch 3 rolls out next month and "matches contemporary with timeless aestheticism for a premium look and feel." Its highlights include a 1.6-inch 320X320 TFT LCD Transflective display, IP68 rating for protection from water, 512 MB RAM and 4 GB eMMC storage, NFC and Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity, as well as multiple sensors. The 420 mAh battery can provide enough juice for up to 2 days of normal use on a single charge.

Popular Android app Lifelog can be accessed now through a Web browser at lifelog.sonymobile.com - a new interface that uses the open API functionality and recent HTML5 technologies to provide a richer visual experience.

In addition to the above, Sony also unveiled a new partnership, this time with Virgin Atlantic. Its goal is "to explore SmartWear initiatives together, to develop unique solutions using Sony’s SmartWear products to support operational activities and enhance the customer service experience for Virgin Atlantic customers." Details are expected to follow in the coming months.
