Sony Xperia XZ4 Compact also in the works: new leak
The Sony Xperia XZ4 has been teased extensively over the last few days, with some leaks suggesting that it will rock an innovative 21:9 aspect ratio in a notchless screen. A new series of renders indicate that the new flagship will also have a Compact companion variant, as in previous generations. However, its appearance may be less than overwhelming for many Sony fans.
The phone depicted in this new leaks, posted on the website CompareRaja, has a decidedly old-school display, having a chin that is outsized by 2018 standards and a forehead to match. This area houses a front-facing camera, sensors and a speaker grille, much like a conventional pre-notch phone. The chin features a Sony logo and a narrow cut-out that may be a second front-facing speaker.
On the other hand, the leak refers to the phone as the "5K" XZ4 Compact, suggesting that the apparently-disappointing panel may have a worthwhile pay-off. The device also has what looks like a side-mounted fingerprint scanner (as does the renders of the full-sized variant) and a form factor with slightly blocky, pronounced corners not hugely different from Xperias of the recent past.
The renders, which are also available on OnLeaks, also show a shiny, possibly glass rear panel with a large circular single camera. Meanwhile, in the world of XZ4 leaks, a new pair of images posted today by IceUniverse appear to show the phone in question with and without a case. The length of the phone serves to give a little more weight to the '21:9' theory. Beside this, the renders show four buttons (one of which may, again, be a side-mounted fingerprint scanner) along one side and nothing at all on the other.
This case-related leak again appears to confirm that the XZ3 will have a USB type C port, but not the headphone jack implied in earlier leaks.
